Alternative Thanksgiving meal

We are not traveling at all for Thanksgiving, and there is really no need for me to try to make the whole big meal. I also do not want to go out for Thanksgiving. It is all okay. I do have fresh cranberries, I always make a cooked sauce, and I will do that. Bob has found a recipe for a smoked salmon quiche, so we will have that. We are going to enjoy our time together and my time off work. I have nothing against turkey. I cook them two or three times per year. We have already purchased one for the freezer. I will need to make room if we want more. I am just not going to cook one this month.

It's all about what you enjoy. I am sorry you aren't going to your daughters..but staying home without work will probably be nice too.

I will find time at a first chance to travel. This fall I am finding that Bob and I are enjoying some simple pleasures, and a calm trip north later will be good as well.

A smoked salmon quiche sounds tasty. I am sorry you won’t be with extended family, but Bob is pretty great company.

Salmon quiche sounds more than fantastic to me. I just gave away the last of the two turkeys that were hogging our freezers. We're stuffing a butternut squash with brown rice and dried cranberries for our Thanksgiving dinner. And two small cherry pies. Probaby whipped cream.

@GardenGerty The squash comes from our garden, the cherries from our area. To us, Thanksgiving should have food from us in one way or another.

@Deepizzaguy I did not buy smoked salmon, I had some filets on hand and marinated them with smoke seasoning.

I fix turkey pretty often. I just finished making up bone broth from bones I had saved in the freezer. This sounded like a special meal for just us.

I suppose you celebrate Thanksgiving with your family and relatives who don't stay with you. Is it something different.

I think that it is very important to break from tradition when it doesn't suit your needs. I think that you and your hubby will long remember this year and how you celebrated it together. It is early, but I wish you a happy Thanksgiving Heather.

We'll be home for Thanksgiving...just the two of us. We have all the makings for a big turkey dinner. To make it easy on hubs, we have boxed dressing, etc. Hope you have a great day.
