Is This Fine too Steep?

This is right up the road on the Interurban Trail. Wish they would do this at my complex. But God could come down and tell these lot to pick up their dog crap and they would defy Him. Anyway, have you fines like this where you live?

We do have fines for not picking up after pets but most people still won't do it. When we still lived at the other house, some dude kept bringing his dog on walks past my yard and leaving presents for me to find while I was mowing. I caught him and his dog one day and told the guy to pick it up... He told me he didn't have a baggie so couldn't. I told him I didn't care so pick it up unless he wanted me to call the police. He griped and groaned at me but finally picked it up and carried it off in his hand. He changed his dog walking route after that and I never found any more presents in my yard.

@RebeccasFarm It upset me. There are plenty of open spaces with grass and trees here that are not someone's yard. Why couldn't he walk his dog there instead of deliberately bring the dog to my yard. I didn't know the guy and, after that encounter, didn't want to know him.

@RebeccasFarm I really should have called the police on him, then.

Being in the country we don't. I've never seen a sign like that. But it is steep.

It is steep, but I assume it's been a serious problem. My neighbor who works hard on her floral garden would love this sign - the walkers are often not cleaning up after their dogs in her yard. I'm sure there are fines here, I'm not sure what it is though.

@RebeccasFarm I tried to look it up . . . could it be right that a person here might have to pay up to $100? Now that almost sounds too low!

Mostly people around here are pretty good about picking up after their dogs. I haven't seen signs like that. Here's a collage of several funny ones that we saw in Ireland, all in the one area.

I haven’t seen any signs like that one. I see signs asking people to pick up their dog poop, and I see they don’t always do it.

That is a big fine. Unless you do it right in front of a cop though, or someone knows who you are and reports it, how are they going to enforce it?

I don't know. Probably. I think they have to impose large amounts to get their idea across. Like take care of your animals.

@RebeccasFarm Believe me that they do enforce it here. If there is no one around, be sure that a good polite citizen will take a photo and send to the Mayor.

I think more places should do this. There are so many animal owners that allow them to do their business wherever they want and not clean up after them. I haven't seen this only signs for litter. Some places will put in paperwork they an be kicked out over it.

No. We just pick the goofballs up and throw them all in the lake, then we adopt their pets out to other people who will actually take care of such things as animal feces disposal.

@RebeccasFarm I have never seen a sign like this and it is good but here we had fines for those that did not pick up after their animals that they walked but does not work. We need to find stricter ways to make those pay that violate laws here.

The fine is $200 here, but most dog owners get away with it. I had one guy that trained his large dog to do its business on my letter box, every time that they walked past. I looked out for him, but never caught him, and as it hasn't happened for a while I can only hope that he has moved out of my area.

We have the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance here. Any act that involves animal cruelty, causing any unnecessary suffering to an animal contravenes the Ordinance. An offender shall be liable on conviction to a fine of up to HKD 200,000 and imprisonment for three years .

Somebody's pet must have dropped a really offensive landmine somewhere! Mostly where I've been, there have not been fines. There is a nature reserve I used to go to quite often and walk barefoot. They had litter boxes, free bags, huge signs explaining the environmental damage and, sometimes, even wardens patrolling, all at huge cost. But still, dog landmines everywhere for my unwary bare footies, ugh. And do not make me start on leashes!
