So, here is this weeks painting project, Ruby Slippers (aka: Red Shoes)
I found the initial drawing quite easy. I did have to do some rubbing out to get the heel and toe in the right place on the left, but other than that it was quite simple.
I got the table ready on Wednesday night and put all my equipment out except for the water jars, so that I wouldn't be wasting time on the Thursday.
On Thursday I started the painting itself. I did the background first with a washy mix of white and a touch of violet. Then when that was dry I blocked in the red of the shoes. I left a small border at the edges and then when I'd filled in the bulk of the shoes, I went round again with a very small brush to get the red up to the edges.
After that I started on the heels. I painted the left heel white, trying to cover some of the pencil marks, then added a touch of white mixed with violet for shadows. Then I did the red on the right heel, and left that to dry a bit before I did the white and the shadows at the top of the heel.
After that I did the shadows at the bottom. I used a mix of white and violet for the lighter shadows, and a mix of white, violet and a bit of black for the darker shadows.
Then I did white and pink highlights, to represent shine, on the shoes, and I added a black area under the shoes and the black tip to the left heel.
Then I called it finished and I left it overnight to dry, although it would have been dry pretty quickly. I put most of my equipment away, but just left the painting out to dry.
Last night I watched Doctor Who: The Daleks in colour on BBC4 followed by the docudrama "An Adventure In Space And Time", the drama about how Doctor Who started. It was made in 2013 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who. At the end, as William Hartnell has been forced to leave because of his health, and he's about to film his regeneration scene, he sees a kind of vision of the latest Doctor. In 2013 it was Matt Smith that he saw. But this time they've changed it to Ncuti Gatwa! I wasn't expecting that! It was really good how they did that.
I've just put the painting and the drawing board back in my bedroom, taken the sheets of newspaper off the table and put Mums tablecloth and placemats back.
Today I'm going shopping down town again, and I've got to remember to get that rocket lettuce!
What are you lot getting up to today?
I hope you are all well.
Have a nice day.

@sharonelton We went out with the chilly wind this Saturday morning to bring heavy things to the monthly recycling place. I am glad to be at home now.

@LadyDuck Oh, brrrrrr. You're making me feel cold! At least you only have to do it monthly.
I would be glad to be home too!
My nose felt like it had frost bite when I went shopping down town on Friday!
Today my weather app said it was 0° for me to go out to Church! I wore my gloves. Fortunately it's not very far to walk so my nose didn't have enough time really to get cold!

@RebeccasFarm I'm not famous. I'm just plain old Sharon. I don't think I'd want to be famous really.

That is really creative, I like what it looks like a modern painting you can sit back and look at.

@sharonelton Thanks for explaining all that. I think it was a really good idea to follow the prospectus. At school, I was always intrigued with the French pomme de terre which means potato but translates as 'apple of the earth' or 'earth apple' - but you probably knew that.

@JudyEv My pleasure. Yes, I thought it was a good idea too. I'm hoping to go back to art class again next summer, and if they give us the prospectus for the Autumn/winter course again then, I'll do the same thing again!
Yes, I did know that. It's one of the few things that I remember from.French class!

For the past 12 weeks I've been doing something similar to what they've been doing on the Winter art course, following the prospectus that they gave us at the end of the Summer course when I was there. The first three weeks were pencil and pen and ink type drawings that I did in a sketchbook. They were 1) Draw your own hand, which cane out better than expected because I'm not good at drawing hands. 2) The abandoned mansion. 3) A spooky or autumnal scene, so I drew a basket on it's side with fruit and veg spilling out including a couple of pumpkins. Then it was on to oil pastels. I had one sheet of pastel paper left over from art class because we did one of our oil pastels there on a smaller piece so didn't need the bigger piece. So I trimmed that in half and used those for my oil pastel drawings which were 1) Figs and 2) A Partridge in a Pear Tree, except mine was A Partridge on a fence by a tree that may or may not have been a pear tree! Then it was on to watercolour which was 1) Migrating Birds at Sunset 2) A kitten on a chair (except mine was supposed to be in a box) and 3) Tarte aux Pommes. (Apple tart to you and me!) Then it was on to acrylics. These were 1) Square lemons 2) A fox 3) Pop art bottles, that didn't come out as they were supposed to, and finally 4) Ruby Slippers.
Now that I've finished painting similar things as they are doing at the art class, and this Thursday they will be doing their mounting, I'll be attempting a frog. Someone on here gave me that idea because they'd painted a frog themselves! I'm also drawing a cabbage in coloured pencil which I hope to show to Paul because he said we were spared the cabbage at art class!
I get all my reference photos from a copyright free site on the internet.

Nice heels
and, I should think, something difficult to paint you did a good job with, thank you for sharing. Does it not break your "flow" when you have to pack up every time? I sometimes get into a writing mode and then I've got to break to make lunch, then after lunch I'm no good again.
I'll tie a knot around my finger for your rocket lettuce as well

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it.
My pleasure.
Well, I usually finish off a painting in a day. And when I do break for dinner I don't usually put everything away because if my Mum and step-dad have been to the luncheon club they don't usually want much for an evening meal, they might just have a piece of cake or something, and then Mum has hers in the living room and my step-dad takes his up stairs so they don't usually need the dining room table. And then I leave everything out overnight while the painting is drying and I put everything away the following morning ready for when they want the table again.
I managed to get my rocket lettuce, but I had to walk all the way up to the big Tesco again!
