Christmas Gifting

I am reading many posts about gifts you folks are buying and how that is going. It reminds me of when I was first married to my now ex. He was working in construction and making a lot of money. Probably about 3 times more than I was. I, on the other hand, was making minimum wage which was probably about $3 an hour. (This was back in the mid to late 80s) Plus, at that time my daughter was still young--about 13 or 14. I did the best I could for Christmas. I had bills and no savings. And let's remember too, it's the thought that counts, right?
Come Christmas day and we open our gifts. As I recall my daughter was perfectly happy with her gifts. My then-husband on the other hand. You know what he said to me? He told me I didn't spend enough money on him. He felt like I didn't get much from me.
(That's just one reason he is now an ex.)

I enjoy the little things. Just having some to open and knowing someone went to the trouble to think of me. It has so much more to do than the monetary. He sure was. And it didn't stop there.

@noni1959 ......i get a kick out of that too. I don't do Starbucks though. We have a local place(Moxie Java) where we get our coffee.

@celticeagle I get excited when someone gives me a starbucks card for a drink. I'm a giver though. I like to make others happy.

Your ex sounds very selfish. Good thing you are rid of him. Have a good week.

I thank my lucky stars almost on a daily basis that I no longer have him in my life.

It wasn't his daughter but, still he should have realized that would be my way of thinking.

He was really money oriented wasn't he?
That is sad.
It is the gift and the thought behind it that counts.
I like practical gifts, but I cannot give those every year, as it would come across as cold.
I try to mix it up some, but during these financially challenging times I think that practical goes a long way.

He was just very narcissistic and it was all about him. I think it is the thought that counts. I just enjoy opening it even more than getting something. The excitement of it all.

He considers gifting a monetary activity. It
should taken as a gesture of appreciation.
