Day 134 Galatians 4:12 Brethren, I urge you to become like me, for I became like you. You have not injured me at all. 13 You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first. 14 You did not despise or reject my trial in my flesh, but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. 15 What then was the blessing you enjoyed? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your own eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I, therefore, become your enemy because I tell you the truth? People with handicaps are often rejected by their peers. They become the recipient of jokes and bullied mercilessly. When they overcome their handicap and prove themselves, they often earn the respect of their peers. Paul had a physical infirmity. He called it a messenger of Satan. 2 Corinthians 12:7 Lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. He alluded to his infirmity as his eyes because the people would have given him their eyes if they could. Yet in calling it a blessing, he asked them if he became their enemy because he spoke the truth to them. People don’t like to hear the truth. Truth has a way of convicting a person of their problems. They would rather hold onto their bad habits than face them and get rid of them. The world persecutes Christians because they bring conviction about their lifestyle. They don’t want to hear about a Savior who can take their bad habits from them. They ridicule them if they have any flaws. However, when you stand your ground as Paul did, and continue to bring the message of truth, they will eventually respect you. You might even convince them they need a Savior. When that happens, you will find help instead of heckling. The Galatians saw past Paul’s infirmity and wanted to help him, even while they felt conviction about the lives they led. He was a blessing to them. Be a blessing to those you minister to, and let God work in your life. What problems face you in presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ? Do you find help in unexpected places as you win souls for Christ? Paul didn’t back down from the gospel but persevered even with physical limitations. You can too. You are not alone. The Holy Spirit works in you to help you bring the message of salvation to everyone who will listen. Let’s pray: Father, use me and my limitations for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Don’t let my limitations stop me from presenting the hope of salvation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 27 November 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

Limitations can be very real, and limiting at times though, and so we do need God's help to overcome the problems that they cause us. Somebody in great pain, all of the time, can want to withdraw from others, and when they are with others, they can be rather grumpy, and prickly, to be around. We need God's help to overcome such difficulties.
