Huge Cookie Marathon Today!!

I was invited to my daughter and son in law's home, to do our annual ''cookie day'' today. This is becoming a tradition for us. They make many varieties of cookies to send to family members. Between the two of them, they have 5 children. They also fix packages of cookies for his parents, his 2 siblings, and my daughter's 3 siblings. Oh, and yes, ME TOO! We had a blast. We made endless cutout cookies, decorated and iced, etc. Gingerbread men, butterscotch, tiny almond cookies, Mexican wedding cake cookies, plain chocolate chip, and I think there were 2 or three other varieties. We made cookies for about 10 hours!! Endless bowls and spoons, cookie sheets, cookie racks, cookie sheets, etc. to wash off and on all day as well as when we shut it down tonight. We had a delicious pizza that was to die for, and a salad, for dinner. But best of all, we had a hilarious time! We told stories, sang silly songs, laughed way too much, and basically acted like the three overgrown kids that we are, I suppose. This is one day we look forward to as much as Christmas, because we have so much fun. They still have to bake 2 more batches of some type in the morning, but the dough is made. We just got too tired to think. But it was a great day, we had a lot of fun and we laughed a lot, which is the best part of all. The only thing I forgot to do today was take some pictures of all the cookies, so please use your imagination! We hadn't had a fun day in a long time, it was so needed. pixabay stock photo since I forgot!

What a shame you forgot to take some pictures of the cakes. I baked cheese cookies to serve as appetizers, they are in the freezer now. Today I want to bake some bread for the holidays. I am glad you had so much fun.

I felt so dumb that I forgot. Sometimes, I get so hungry for a simple, fun day. It was really nice to have one, thank you, Anna

@MarieCoyle - I remember when my grandmother, my mother and I spend an afternoon making tortellini for the family. Happy memories.

@LadyDuck I completely understand. For me, these days are for the memories way more than the cookies.

I was wiped out tired, Eva. And the kids made me sit down a lot, too. Just a long day, but so fun!

I’m so envious of you! That used to be a tradition in my home too, and something I looked forward to every year. But now that my kids are grown, we don’t do it anymore. I’m sure that once I have grandkids I will pick up the tradition once again. I hope you had a blast baking all those cookies!

@MarieCoyle The mess is the funnest part of doing it! When I look back on all our fun memories, it's often the mess we laugh about the most.

We really enjoy it. There were some years we were too far apart to do that before the holidays, and we missed that time. It makes a huge mess, yes. But it's still worth it, the stories, the laughter, the memories we are making...don't wait too long!!

@moffittjc We tried hard to clean as we went, but oh, all of that flour and butter getting constantly mixed up, there were literally clouds of flour! But so much fun. We all need to have more fun in our lives. Sometimes it's just important to me to do that.
