I read in an article that the World Health Organization (WHO) is encouraging governments to impose a tax on sugary drinks on the market. The main objective is to encourage people not to consume a lot of this kind of drink. It is like a sin tax that was implemented to control the use of cigarettes. Do you think people think it is reasonable? Image Credit: scripps.org

Switzerland already add a tax to sugary drinks, they will tax more garbage food in the future.

I guess it adds to the two countries: Singapore and the US. They are in the process of planning to push through this idea.

@LadyDuck It seems that we can expect more of banning certain products aside from these things.

@Shavkat As people are dumb enough to poison themselves, I am glad that the authorities are stepping in.

From what we experienced, they just add artificial sweeteners and make the product the same price. I've never really thought that artificial sweeteners is a lesser evil then refined sugar.

Things have been changing lately. The more things are developed, the more rules follow, too.

I also think that some companies that produce sugary products forget the principle of social responsibility. So, it is best for them to have the tax.

I am on the side of health concerns. Personally speaking, it is a good idea.

But there are some drinks with low level of sugar. I don't think such kind of drinks should be taxed. In any case, people should make their own decision whether to consume sugary drinks. Imposing tax is not fair.

I guess you are one of them who opposed such an idea. In the article, it was not indicated if sugar-free products would be taxed.
