Dangerous Cheese?

Ooh! I just heard of this type of cheese that has maggots in it. Casu Marzu is often called the world's most dangerous cheese. It is an illegal product found in Sardinia, Italy. Made from sheep's milk it is infested with live maggots which elevates its fermentation process by breaking down the cheese's fats. They appear as translucent white worms and can measure about 8 millimeters in length. By consuming the larvae they can survive in the intestine and cause enteric myiasis. This can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting.

Yeah, I so agree. I guess people from that city in Italia like it. A weird bunch I am thinking.

This was so sickening...the idea of maggots in food is simply nauseating.

@MarieCoyle ......No, thankfully it is only eaten in Sardinia. Some people there are over 100 years old.

Let's hope it's not something that will take off as a new food fad. Ugh.

@celticeagle I suspect the cheese is not so dangerous. Sardinians are the population with the highest life expectancy in the world. They do not eat beef and they only have sheep and goat milk, same with cheese, no cow cheese and no butter, but only olive oil and a lot of vegetables.

@MALUSE ......Why? Because they are what we see when food is rotten and not done away with properly. That makes them not something I would want to eat.
I've had a snake. It wasn't that bad but, it is also not something that appears when food is rotten.
