Here we buy bananas by weight

I find it extremely unfair that we buy bananas by weight as the fingers from the hand are not separated but the entire hand is weighed
We pay for the hand where atleast 20% is what holds the bananas together
Some unscrupulous sellers will see that there is more of what the bananas hold together

If the bananas were individually weighed then we would benefit

We buy them by weight in bunches too, more often with five or six bananas together rather than a whole hand. I guess you are right and some of the weight isn't edible but I never really thought about that. I expect that extra is taken account of in the price, if the sellers cut it off they would probably charge more per fruit.

The weight includes that which the bananas are held together and that I feel is not fair.

The seller benefits as the weight includes that portion that holds the bananas together

@allknowing Many things are like that. If we buy bone in chicken it is cheaper by the pound than boneless. So they have that factored in

We've always been charged by the weight for bananas. It's that way for some fruits when they are priced per pound.

The other fruits are not held together and that which helps the bananas to hold together is also included in the weight

@allknowing The price depends on the size of the bunch.

well nothing can be done . Same for vegetable .
Hell , even when buying chicken its like that . if it weights 2kg by the time they cut, remove all the unwanted parts its way lesser . but we pay for the 2kg . Today it costed me 300rs (2.5kg X 120rs[for 1 kg])

We don't buy banana by weight here. The price depends on the size of the bunch.

Perhaps also by the number of bananas in a hand (bunch)?
