Japan's Ministry of Health revised a new set of sleep standards in 2014 in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Welfare. The fact that the majority of the population sleeps for fewer than six hours each day worries them. The following are the updated sleeping guidelines:
1. Students in elementary school should get nine to twelve hours of sleep.
2. Students in junior and senior high school should get eight to ten hours of sleep.
3. Adults ought to receive six hours or more.
4. Seniors should not sleep for longer than eight hours a night in order to avoid health problems.
5. They must to get adequate sunlight and abstain from food and alcohol before bed.
6. Their bedroom should be gloomy without employing modern gadgets.
7. Only four cups of coffee should be consumed daily by them.
What do you think of Japan's recently implemented sleep guidelines?
According to you, how much sleep is necessary to feel completely rested?

You cannot dictate what a person does or does not do day to day, Some can sleep and some can't and there are other circumstances which make everyone different from each other,

@jstory07 Not, unless some one pisses me off. I do need to stop that too. It gets me nowhere. I did use it to keep people away, but thinking probably not right way to get people to leave me alone.

@jstory07 I get 5 to 6 and very rarely get more, unless my friend make me drink to much.

@crossbones27 I know you will not drink more than you can handle.

I think it sounds great but yeah should never be dictated just recommended. We do not need anymore dummies spiting people because they feel like they telling them what to do.

I usually have 7-8 hours of sleep and that's enough for me. It's difficult for senior high school students to get 10 hours of sleep here. They have lots of homework.

@Beestring I guess it is also the same situation in China then. Most of my online young learners are whining about their homework every day.

These are a lot like US guidelines. I wish I could get eight hours of good sleep per night, but I do not.

I think the guidelines are perfect. I think all governments in every country should have such guidelines and instruct the offices especially the private companies in India. Only then there be a decrease in stress and heart attacks.

@Shavkat I should say the Japanese government have realized their mistake soon which India still hasn't. On the other hand Infosys founder says that youngsters should work for 70 hours.

I think the majority of those suggestions are reasonable to maintain health. I get 8 hours of sleep. I've read 7-8 hours is best for adults.

@dgobucks226 You are right. The sleep cycles or patterns vary from one person to another.

@Shavkat Of course, as you suggest those guidelines do not apply to everyone. Some can get by on much less and it has no effect on their health. The inventor Thomas Edison only slept 3-4 hours. A more current example is Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group: 5-6 hours per night.
