Firstly, worry about a fire then a storm hits

There have been bad bushfires in Western Australia and my sister evacuated to our place for two nights just to be on the safe side. However, the day after we took her home, a big storm came through her area and brought down a lot of trees on the properties there and along the roads. In the middle of the storm, they had an inch of rain in half an hour. Within an hour the temperature was back to 40C so it is very steamy there now. The lightning started more fires in country areas. The photo was taken by my nephew.

@judyev And here I am skidding about under snow. Really underlines the instability and unpredictability of life and how vulnerable we all are, so let’s not waste it by drinking cheap, insipid coffee.

@JudyEv Nor mass produced pesto. I’ve just made a jar of my own pesto to slaver on a couple of darnes of salmon which I will roast later. I’m so good to myself.

@JudyEv I hope there wasn't too much damage there. Oh yah, trees falling on houses is not good . . . we see that often on the news out here - big trees toppling!

Yes, this was taken up near the goat sheds. Luckily, she doesn't have really big trees around her house.

The only damage is from the falling trees. Some trees near the sheds have almost fallen over so will have to be taken out.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry for your sister. Look at the big mess the storm did. I know the feeling of "steam" when the temperatures goes up immediately after a lot of rain.

Ouch! I can imagine the double pain of the storm damage AND the stifling heat after the rain. I hope there’s no significant damage to their home or property!

There will be a lot of trees to cut up and make safe. Some are leaning over with the roots being pulled from the ground. One tree in the garden split in two from the wind.

There is enough worry with people lighting fires, without lightning starting up more.

That's not good. We're a lot of the bush fires started because of the high temps? I've heard that can happen sometimes. Is your sister still heading home after the two days? I hope nothing major in her property was damaged.

Is that your sister's property? It looks bad and will take a while to clean up. That's a lot of rain in a short time. I hope they can get the fires under control.

I think insurance will cover the major damage at least. Nature seems to be in a bit of a temper for sure.

With those temperatures and then rain, the ground must have been rock hard and hardly absorbed any water

I am so sorry for what she is going through right now. Nature's cruel path of destruction rearing its ugly head on her property. I hope that in time, when it is safe to return her family can begin the clean up process. It is too bad that so much of our world is burning up from wildfires, we had alot of them last summer here.

Thanks. Over the last few years, the cold periods are colder, the hot periods hotter and storms more intense. It's quite worrying really.
