I Lost a Dagnabbed Quarter Today

Dagnabbit and confound it, I lost a quarter today at Aldi. Now normally I am an anal-retentive jerk. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. How much so I will leave up to your interpretation, of course.
If you happen to catch me putting my cart away at an Aldi store, I am most likely to snatch your quarter offering without any hesitation nor remorse whatsoever.
Except today it was a little old lady strolling around with a cane. She offered me her quarter and I just didn't have the heart to take it from her. "Don't worry about it, ma'am," I told her with a smile. "You have a wonderful rest of your day."
"Oh, you're too kind," she said.
Lady, if you only knew.

@much2say lol. Perhaps she did. Eggs at Aldi that day were $1.52 per dozen. That quarter would have brought them down to $1.27 per dozen for her. I have said if I see them for $1.29 I will pay that. So, she would have technically gotten them cheaper than the price I am willing to pay.
I have lost on all counts here. lol

It was kind of you to refuse it. Not sure if George would, but kindsness is it's own reward.

You certainly did not need that quarter and it was just out of the kindness of her heart,

Many, many times I have gone to Aldi and on my way to get a cart with my quarter, someone gives me their cart and says just pay it forward. So, I always do when that happens. I'm not out anything. (For the record, I am the lady at Aldi with the leg brace/crutches if you are looking for me--sure, you can give me your cart!)
I don't know if you are aware of it, but you more than likely absolutely MADE her day by passing on the quarter. I have a sneaking feeling you are a lot more generous than you ever profess to be.

You never know if you are doing a good deed for an angel in disguise. I bet you earn more than a quarter for this post.

@porwest We have 1 Franc coin, but you must insert a 2 Francs coin in the cart. They thought that one franc is not a good enough incentive to bring the cart back.
I got another 2 Francs yesterday, I am sure we have Swiss German tourists right now, they can never figure out what they have to do.

That was generous of you. And the lady made 25 cents lol. I still don't get why Aldi still does this. Is it to prevent people from stealing the shopping carts? There are stores that have some sort of feature on their shopping carts that if you go past a certain point the wheels will lock and you won't be able to take it any further.

@porwest I've seen that at my supermarkets. Sometimes instead of a car parked in a parking spot there is one or more shopping carts in there.

@lovebuglena It drives me nuts when people do that. How hard is it to walk a few extra feet and just put the cart where it belongs?

It is to give people an incentive not to leave their carts anywhere in the parking lot and return them to their proper receptacle. MOST of the time when you are in an Aldi parking lot it is rare there are carts scattered. When you go to a Walmart parking lot the corrals are all empty and the carts are scattered all over the parking lot.

It's a positive vibe to your day when you can find some change in the slot of any type of machine. Soda, grocery, it doesn't matter. It puts an "alright cool" smile on your face.
Yes, good move on the elderly lady. That would definitely generate a bad vibe!
