I'm A Bit Miffed

I had gotten a few things from them a few months ago but then heard that TEMU is a company in China and that they use child labor. So, I was going to be a good consumer and not buy from them anymore. But, nearly every day now I see some neat gadget or cool article of clothing in ads that come up on my computer. Things that I thought I'd love to get for the kids or for me. What's a girl to do? Their quality and pricing seem good and I was happy with the 3 or 4 items I bought but I don't want to purchase from a company that uses child labor. I wonder if they still are doing this.
Anyone know?
What are your thoughts?

I recently read a story about them from a computer magazine, their online site, and it was damning. I started out buying them from them too until @MarieCoyle made me aware some of their practices. They don’t just use child labor, they use labor from prison camps with people imprisoned for being Muslim. Their app has also been linked to data breaches, and that part does not really surprise me. Apps tracks our info so closely. You just don’t think of them actively stealing your credit card info and such, even from a Chinese company.
They have moved some of their business to Ireland in hopes it looks better for their company, but not the actual places where employees do the slave labor. As for the quality…the first few things I got were nice, and held up well. Subsequently, a few things arrived broken, a bracelet showed up with only part of it included, and a shirt fell apart in the washer. That was around the time Marie talked about it, and I ran across a FB post from @GardenGerty I believe.

We have reached the point that if we are going to order or do business with an unfamiliar business/website/whatever, we need to really do our homework.
Amber, I read that they (as well as Shein!) have a lot of lead in their clothing as well! I know that isn't something any of us need.

@MarieCoyle Yes, I was wondering about Shein! I just became aware of them, and when I looked them up I thought wait, this is just a “classier” version of Temu; they have to be the same thing.

@AmbiePam
A bargain is never a bargain if it's toxic.
I did read that it is recommended anyone purchasing and wearing TEMU jewelry should refrain from getting it wet while wearing it, and not wearing it for long periods of time (due to lead and cadmium content.)
Ugh...no one needs a bargain this bad.

No, it won't stop the practice, but no way to I ever want to knowingly support child labor or forced labor of any kind, ever.

I have read that Kim Kommando says that installing the app leads to spyware on your devices and is almost impossible to remove. I personally believe that to offer the prices they offer there would have to be some kind of forced labor. My opinion only. I will not do business with them.

Do some research on Temu. I think you might be rather shocked. Many, many of their items have a high lead content, as well as cadmium. They are using forced labor. They are under investigation. And if that's not enough for you, when you download the app on your phone, they steal every single picture, post, anything you've searched, it's all theirs now.
Still want to shop there? When I did my homework, I wasn't even tempted. You may have my share of Temu!

@celticeagle I have read a few posts about people ordering from them.
This post should be an eye opener to them and all of us really.

See if you can find those same or similar things from a more reputable supplier?
I just read about how TEMU (or one of the businesses who sell through it) stole a young designer's dress idea and sold it at a quarter of the price - but they even used her own photos to promote it!

@Fleura ........No, I don't need those items. But, they do have some unique gift items and household items. Things that I don't see elsewhere.

I read early on from some MyLot members that you had to be careful of your data being stolen. That's what turned me off to the site. I didn't know about the child labor. It doesn't surprise me since their prices are so low. I will not buy from them. Have a good day.

Another problem with them (and similar sites) is that they often steal designs and make poorer quality versions of things. There's a great video online where a dressmaker buys one of their knock-offs of her own dress What they are offering and what arrived were very different.
