Day 4 – Substitute Genesis 4:1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the LORD (Jehovah).” 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 In the process of time, it came to pass Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD (Jehovah). 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. The LORD (Jehovah) respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. Cain was angry, and his countenance fell. 6 So the LORD (Jehovah) said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? If you do not do well, sin lies at the door. Its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” 8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. 9 Then the LORD (Jehovah) said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. 11 So now you are cursed from the earth, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you will be on the earth.” 13 Cain said to the LORD (Jehovah), “My punishment is greater than I can bear! 14 Surely, You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I will be hidden from Your face; I will be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.” 15 The LORD (Jehovah) said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.” Then the LORD (Jehovah) set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him. 16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD (Jehovah) and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. 17 Then Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city and called the name of the city after the name of his son-Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech. 19 Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. 20 Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. 22 As for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah. 23 Then Lamech said to his wives: “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; wives of Lamech, listen to my speech! For I killed a man for wounding me, even a young man for hurting me. 24 If Cain will be avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.” 25 Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God (Elohiym) has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 As for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the LORD (Jehovah). God’s names Jehovah – Self-existent, eternal Elohiym – Mighty God Character Judge, Merciful, Love When people commit a crime and go before a judge, they want mercy from the judge. They don’t want the worst sentence possible handed to them. Even when the crime was pre-meditated. Cain was angry with Jehovah because He accepted Abel’s offering but not his. Jehovah told Cain what would happen if he continued in his anger with his brother. When Cain killed Abel, Jehovah sentenced him to live as a stranger and vagabond in the land. Cain pleaded for mercy. Jehovah listened and set His mark on Cain, so no one would kill him. Jehovah had mercy on Cain. When another man of Cain’s descendants killed a man for wounding him, he expected Jehovah to multiply His mercy toward him. Then Eve had another son to replace Abel and knew Elohiym showed them mercy in giving them a son and named him Seth whose name means substitute. Elohiym is merciful and loving. You see His mercy every day when you sin against Him and cry out for forgiveness. Elohiym sent us a substitute for our sin, Jesus (Yeshuwa`, yay-shoo'-ah) – our Messiah – Mashiyach. When we ask for His mercy, He sees Jesus’ blood covering us, and has mercy on us, forgiving us for our sin against Him. Have you asked for Elohiym’s mercy for your sin? Cain asked for mercy and received it. When Eve had another son, Elohiym showed His mercy and love by providing a substitute for what Cain did. Yeshuwa is our substitute. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for providing a substitute for my sin. I know I am a sinner and do not deserve Your mercy. Thank you for Your mercy and love toward me. When I sin, let Your mercy cover me as the blood of Your Son, Yeshuwa, covers me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 22 January 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

It is interesting that Adam and Eve were sent out from the garden of Eden, into the rest of the Earth, which was already populated with other people then too. Cain found a wife in the city of Nod.

Earth wasn't populated. Adam and Eve were the first and only people when God sent them from the garden of Eden. When Cain married his wife, she was his sister.

@innertalks God only created one man and one woman from whom the whole earth was populated. He told them to multiply and replenish the earth. There weren't people on the earth before Adam and Eve.

@just4him Perhaps, you are right, that all life came from Adam and Eve, and yet the Bible does mention the existence of other types of hybrid humans too. Genesis, chapter 6, verse 4: "The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown." Also, Genesis, chapter 4, verse 14, says this though. "Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." implying that there must have been people around that would kill Cain, at that time.
