It's turning out to be a good day.

It's approaching evening and the sun will set in about an hour. I've done two out of the four feeds that I need to give George today, and will give him number three in a little bit. He wants to work on cleaning the litter box, something he'd been doing before his stroke. I've been doing it since his hospitalization but am more than happy to let him take over. Don't get me wrong, I love and am thankful to still have Chilly. I hope he gives us a few more good years. But, that does not mean I like cleaning up cat litter. However, I'll do it because I chose to have a cat. Passing the torch back and letting George work on the box is important for his overall self-confidence. He needs to get back to doing things that make him feel productive. Everyone wants to feel valued.

I'm glad to hear that George is taking on some extra activity. I am sure Chilly will appreciate this. I hope he finds other things he wants to do too. I have two cats so every day whenever I see the litter box used I scoop up and mix up and clean up so I totally dump the litter box every two weeks when I change their litter completely. I have their litter coming from Chewy every four weeks with two large litter bags with a mix of chamomile and rose oil in the sand for relaxation, They seem to like it, When the litter is completely fresh Morticia lies in it and looks ecstatic. I hope you both have a good evening,

The litter box isn't the most fun chore, but I'd done it. George has spent the better part of the day scooping the box in the bedroom. He has also been bringing up the trash bin when I'd take it down for pickup and he's been collecting the mail. Hasn't touched a lawn mower, yet but we're getting there. Every little bit he does, does help. And, it seems like everyday he adds something else and eventually he'll be back to helping me out.

@kaylachan you will have to learn a special cheer to urge him on and let him know it is all appreciated. Way to go George! Rah Rah Rah

@RasmaSandra I know he claimed to hate it when he was working, but I thank him every day and remind him he's done a good job.

Feeling productive is so important to good mental health. And feeling valued is something we all need. So nice that things are going well.

Yeah. Hence why I'm reluctant to say 'no' when it comes to things George wants to do.

As much normalcy as you can give him is good for his recovery I think. I don't think anyone actually likes litter box cleaning though.

No. It's not the most fun part of the job. However, its part of cat ownership.

Yes, this is great news, Kayla. He wants to be productive, as you stated. He remembers being that way, and wants his life back. These are good steps, the trash detail and the mail, it brings him more normalcy and I'm sure makes him feel really good, too. Yay, George!!

I can tell how exhausted he is, but I still got all his pills down as well as three feeds. So, I call that a win. I have one more feed to go and one more set of pills to give.

If I had a cutie like Chilly I wouldn’t mind it too much either.
