Day 12 – Unity
Genesis 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.
2 And it happened, as they journeyed from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.
3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and asphalt for mortar.
4 They said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we become scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
5 The LORD (Jehovah) came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
6 Then the LORD (Jehovah) said, “Indeed the people are one and they have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down and confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
8 So the LORD (Jehovah) scattered them abroad from there over the face of the earth, and they ceased building the city.
9 Therefore, its name is Babel, because there the LORD (Jehovah) confused the language of the earth; and from there the LORD (Jehovah) scattered them abroad over the face of the earth.
God’s name:
Elohiym – Hebrew – Mighty God
Theos – Greek – Mighty God
Yeshuwa – Hebrew – Jesus
Iesous – Greek – Jesus
Christos – Greek – Messiah
Mashiyach – Messiah
Kurios – Lord – Master
Hagios – Holy
Pneuma – Spirit – breath, wind
God’s character:
Judge
When you begin something do you have the necessary tools to do the job? Did you go to the planning commission to present your intentions to them, if your proposal included a business venture? If you planned to build a home, did you do an assessment of the land?
Nimrod determined to build a tower in Babel, one of the cities he founded. He planned to build it tall enough to reach heaven. He intended to bring idol worship right to God’s (Elohiym’s) door. With his intention, he realized something could go wrong. Though he wanted to set up his own religion, he still knew God’s (Elohiym’s) power and told his crew it would be a good idea to give the project a name in case God (Elohiym) scattered them. Did he know what God would do? No. But he wanted to be prepared for every contingency so his plan wouldn’t fail.
The LORD (Jehovah) saw what Nimrod proposed, and knew if left alone, nothing would be impossible for him. Therefore, the LORD (Jehovah) changed everyone’s speech, so no one knew what the other said. Nimrod could no longer move forward with his plan to build a tower to heaven to mock God (Elohiym) with his religion.
How many people worked to build the Tower of Babel? That’s how many languages there are in the earth today. Innumerable.
Unable to communicate with each other, the only thing they could do was to quit the work.
When God (Elohiym) sent His Son, Yeshuwa to the earth, He did so with the intention everyone could know Him and the work of redemption He proposed. When Yeshuwa died, a placard above His head read Yeshuwa of Nazareth, King of the Jews in several languages, Greek, Aramaic, and Latin, the three predominant languages in the earth at the time.
When Jesus, (Yeshuwa) returned to heaven, God (Elohiym) sent the Holy Spirit (Hagios Pneuma) to unite the languages of the earth. Each of the apostles spoke in a language the people could understand.
Acts 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 Then they were filled with the Holy Spirit (Hagios Pneuma) and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit (Pneuma) gave them utterance.
When you accept Jesus (Yeshuwa) as your Mashiyach (Savior) and Lord (Kurios), He gives you the ability to speak in other tongues. The Holy Spirit (Hagios Pneuma) does that so people can understand the gospel message.
1 Corinthians 12:4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit (Pneuma).
5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord (Kurios).
6 There are diversities of activities, but it is the same God (Theos) who works all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit (Pneuma) is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit (Pneuma), to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit (Pneuma), 9 to another faith by the same Spirit (Pneuma), to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit (Pneuma), 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
11 But one and the same Spirit (Pneuma) works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Many Christians believe these gifts aren’t in operation today. Yet God (Elohiym, Theos) is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. He doesn’t change. The gifts of the Holy Spirit (Hagios Pneuma) are alive and operating in Christians today.
As God (Elohiym) divided the language of the earth when Nimrod started to build the tower to heaven, He brought the languages together through the Holy Spirit (Hagios Pneuma) when Jesus (Yeshuwa) returned to heaven.
Nimrod’s intent was to mock God (Elohiym). God’s (Theos’) intent is to bring the world together with the gospel of Jesus Christ. (Yeshuwa, Iesous Christos)
Satan’s intent is division. He used Nimrod to separate the world from God (Elohiym). God’s (Elohiym’s) intent is unity.
Psalm 133:1 (A Song of Ascents. Of David.) Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD (Jehovah) commanded the blessing—life forevermore.
Satan will do whatever he can to divide the body of Christ. As Christians, you must not let it happen.
Let’s pray: Father, give me discernment when Satan wants to bring division with his agenda among Your people. Let me show how Satan divides, but You bring unity. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

It seems strange that they thought that they could build a tower reaching Heaven, and God seemed afraid that they might do so too. No tower that they could have built would have ever reached heaven.
I wonder who gave man his original language, maybe God taught Adam how to speak.
Languages are dynamic, and change over time too.
It seems a strange thing for God to do to mankind, to me, almost like giving them a handicap to slow down their progress.

God wasn't afraid. The intention was to bring idol worship to heaven and God won't allow it. So, he confounded their language so they couldn't understand each other. Until then everyone spoke the same language.
It did slow down their progress. God will never allow Satan to get the upper hand.

@just4him It might have been an attempt to try to bring idol worship, to Heaven, but it would never have happened, but God chose to nip it in the bud, I guess.
