My Peacock TV Experience Continued

Yesterday I posted about my experience trying to cancel my subscription to PeacockTV. I saw that the sub-fee had gone through my bank today so I called them to lodge a dispute. The rep I spoke to gave me a number for Peacock customer care that she found. I called it and a man with what I think was an Indian accent answered. I told him I was canceling the service. He instructed me to go to the Play Store and download an app called Ad Desk. I found it and looked it over. I questioned this immediately, did not download it, and called my grandson to come up and see what he thought. The app even said very definitely to only use it with people you trusted. I told the rep I didn't feel comfortable and he started telling us this story about seeing where entities in New Jersey, California, and Mexico had access to my Peacock account and he needed to get a certain code from my phone that would then allow them to cancel my service. WHAT A BUNCH OF HOOEY! I wanted the bank to know about this number and have this scam center experience added to my dispute info. I hung up and called the bank back. After telling three different reps my story I got to the right one. She added this information. I also wanted the number noted as a scam center so other people wouldn't call it. It took her forever to find where the previous rep had found this number. She noted my experience in calling the number. Last night I Googled each one of my TV apps and found each one had a designated toll-free number for customer service. Geez Louise! We need to be so careful in any accounts or things we have access to nowadays.

I can’t believe a bank rep actually sent you to a scam number. That’s insane to me.

I'm wondering where she got the # and if she wasn't involved. It took the next rep a long time to even find it.

Yeah, I know. It just goes to show those who are there to help can be scammed or lead others to be scammed. You were right not to download, install or use anydesk on your phone. It would've given the man remote access to your phone, and would've been able to do whatever with it.

Exactly. I've had other experiences with this type of thing. It's weird to have this transpire on a television app. What will they think of next?

I have Peacock. I went to their site and started a chat. I couldn't find any help with that either. I found I couldn't even update my profile, only my email address and payment information. I'm sorry you had so much trouble with it. I thought about canceling it, but I like the service.

Yep. did all of that. Your email address and payment info is all they care about. They are not one I'd use again. Good luck! Hope you don't have any problems.

I don't trust anything anymore these days, it's so hard to trust things that you wouldn't think was bad but turns out they are a scam.
