Another Sensor Failure?!

I have been using the Freestyle Libre 2 for over a year now. Sometimes it seems to work really good, but then sometimes not so well.
Sometimes they will either fail right away, or close to the 2 week end time.
I am not sure how much time I had left on my current one - but I just got the error message when I tried to scan my blood sugar that the sensor stopped working and to replace it.
I had noticed the past 2 days the blood sugars were reading constantly low (in the 50s and 60s) when I was in fact not low.
What is the point of these devices if they fail so much, or just are incorrect? I hear the next model is better and would like to try it but I don't think insurance would cover that model until they come out with an even newer one.
Maybe I should just stick my finger each time and stop worrying about it. Usually doesn't hurt anyways, just is a pain when this is a simple one second scan.

That has to be frustrating. It’s good you keep track so you know that you shouldn’t be low when it is reading constantly low like that.

But I shouldn't need to, except when I am starting a new one or when I feel low to make sure it is being correct.

@MommyOfEli2013 Nope, I wouldn't recommend the new one (7) at all. My hubby wants the old one (6) back!!
It is a shame that they don't work as they should. It makes you wonder if they just released them without testing them for very long? That is my thought on them.

@kareng Well good to know, although I don't use that brand...not sure it's even covered under my insurance. I think I was lucky to get the Libre.
That's a good question...

Not sure if that brand would be covered by my insurance....but doesn't sound much better - at least the newer version. It's disappointing that something that is supposed to help fails so much....

I find I prefer doing finger sticks over having something attached to me. Sure a one second scan can be convent, but I am not a fan of knowing there's a small needle under my skin for several days.

@MommyOfEli2013 Have you considered something like the dex com? It has less failure rates, if you're not bothered by wearing a sensor.

@kaylachan I have heard of it, but not sure my insurance covers that one. I heard it is better and you can wear it on more than just your arm. Although not sure I would want to wear it anywhere else lol

I don't mind it being attached, doesn't hurt to put on or wear...don't even really feel it during the 2 weeks. I just find it annoying that it is wrong so often. My doc just laughed that fact off last time.

I would probably only check once a day if I went back to just that.
It's an inconvenience to do all it takes to check it by finger lol

@MommyOfEli2013 I have checked mine at times and know it is. But bad readings are not doing you any good

@wolfgirl569 Right, if they say I am doing good but really am not then that is no good.

I have to work with the stick finger in a device to check on my blood sugar since in my view it is simple and the most effective way to monitor my blood sugar.

It is simple yes, but very inconvenient and takes so much effort. I don't like things that take effort lol
but these things are getting annoying.

No worries, just really wanted to vent out my frustrations about it. Told the doctor about the issue and he just laughed it off last time. He seems to laugh off a lot of things.

It could be something I am doing wrong. Maybe 1 out of 4 will work perfectly, 1 will fail right away, and 2 will work for some of the time. I want to either try the newer model, a different brand or give up on them!

Yes, this does not sound reliable. My sister had one and got rid of it now she just sticks her finger.

Did she have problems too? I hear the newer model is more reliable/accurate and it tells you what your sugar is currently. This older model is 15 minutes behind, which is also frustrating.

I'm glad I didn't get a mechine to take my sugar
& went with the cheapest thing they had & it's
1 I stick my fingers & have test strips for it BUT
depending on your ins they don't pay for the
strips you need for it but I'd stock up on them
as much as I could if I was you, that's what I'm doing.

yeah mine won't pay for the strips either, or anything like that.
But having these fail is getting annoying. I get a 3 month supply, but if
they fail they don't last the three months and then I don't have any more of them.
