2/21/24 - Update on My Husband

Got a couple of calls from the rehab facility yesterday. The admissions officer wanted to know if I had any concerns. I mentioned again that my husband must be fed. She said they fed him in the morning; and he ate 50-75% of his food. That's BS. I also complained about the bed and asked what kind of PT he was getting. There will be a phone conference this afternoon to discuss my concerns. I have several more.
I am trying very hard to get my mind wrapped around the fact that he probably won't be able to come home. I've been handling it better. I'm sure that will change when I actually see him again. We will be going to see him again tomorrow; and his sister is coming in from Phoenix on Saturday night. She's going to stay with me. That will be a challenge for me to be civil.

@LindaOHio If you need physical help, I remember a lady coming to help my mom about three days a week for a few hours to help her. I believe it was through Medicaid or Medicare (she had both).

@AmbiePam Hubby's cousin has been coming a couple of days a week. I always have a list of stuff for her to do; but it's hard for me to heat up a meal or get some water, etc.

This is the kind of situation where family use hidden cameras to find out what's really going on. You feel so out of control not knowing how he's being treated when you're not there. I hope things improve. And I hope you and his sister can manage to get along OK. Maybe this shared crisis will help.

I take it you don't get along with sis. Hopefully she will be helpful and not too much of a pain in the butt. Will she have a rental car so she can drive you around at least?

I hope the facilities they have where your husband is get better. I remember that you told us about a very bad bed and nurses that were not caring.

@LadyDuck They weighed him in physical therapy. He's lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks.

You have a lot on your plate right now. I hope you get some answers soon and get to move him if you find a better place. Is he close with his sister? Hopefully the visit will go well. Try to be good to yourself right now as well, I know it's all very hard.

I am sorry that his family is descending on your space soon, but honestly, I hope that they will be supportive to you.
Good luck with the phone conference, have your questions ready and try to write down all that you can as they bring up topics.
You are doing the very best job that you can, keep it up.

Lots of adjustments, but I assure you it will get better over time. I hope you can get all of your concerns addressed, and I wouldn't worry about being flippant. It's your husband after all, and obviously you care about him more than they do and they need to understand that.

@porwest Couldn't visit because he was taken to the ER. Now they found a hip fracture. Will be doing surgery Monday or Tuesday.

I feel so bad that this is not going right
it's not right for them to lie to you about
how he's doing, if I could I'd find another
rehab place closer than where he is if
there is a place that will take him.

I just keep praying. I still hope that some way things can turn around. You need to emphasize the there must be a reason this is all happening and if its medical perhaps it can be controlled in some way, Best of luck when you got see him tomorrow. I don't think you have to worry about how you are around his sister I am sure she will understand and is just as worried about her brother, Many blessings,
