Have any of you ever heard of the Spoon Theory? This sounds funny or odd to anyone who has not heard about it. The Spoon Theory is about describing to healthy friends and family what it feels like when you have a chronic illness or disability. It can be difficult to explain why we are not able to get out and do things with our friends and family, or why we have to cancel plans a lot. Just to sum it up, the chronically ill person starts the day with a certain number of spoons. (This explanation was born in a restaurant.) Throughout the day this person uses certain numbers of spoons based on their activities, including just the process of waking up and getting dressed every day to going to work, or to the store, or maybe not doing much of anything because you have drained your spoons for that day. Or maybe you used too many spoons the day before and "borrowed" from this day. Or maybe you did not get a good sleep so you woke up with your spoon allowance already depleted. I found this Spoon Theory several years ago from a Facebook page called, "But You Don't Look Sick." The Spoon Theory is a very good explanation for healthy people to understand. Follow the link if you would like to read the entire article. It is well worth it.

I had heard of this but had forgotten it. It's a very good way to explain a chronic illlness.

It is very sad and annoying when those who are healthy do not take the time to try to understand why it is that someone may be challenged day to day.

I've never heard of the Spoon Theory. I have trouble walking and standing. It's due to spinal issues. I always think people decide that it's because of my weight. Have a good day.
