Day 52 – Qualification
Exodus 4:1 Then Moses answered and said, “Suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The LORD (Jehovah) has not appeared to you.’”
2 The LORD (Jehovah) said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
He said, “A rod.”
3 He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So, he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.
4 Then the LORD (Jehovah) said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand), 5 that they may believe that the LORD (Jehovah) God (Elohiym) of their fathers, the God (Elohiym) of Abraham, the God (Elohiym) of Isaac, and the God (Elohiym) of Jacob, appeared to you.”
6 Furthermore the LORD (Jehovah) said to him, “Now put your hand in your bosom.” He put his hand in his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, like snow.
7 He said, “Put your hand in your bosom again.” He put his hand in his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, it was restored like his other flesh.
8 “Then it will be, if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign. 9 It will be, if they do not believe even these two signs, or listen to your voice, that you will take water from the river and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land.”
10 Then Moses said to the LORD (Jehovah), “O my Lord (Adonay), I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”
11 The LORD (Jehovah) said to him, “Who made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the LORD (Jehovah)? 12 Now, therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you will say.”
13 He said, “O my Lord (Adonay), please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.”
14 So the anger of the LORD (Jehovah) was kindled against Moses, and He said, “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know he can speak well. Look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. 15 You will speak to him and put the words in his mouth. I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do. 16 He will be your spokesman to the people. He himself will be as a mouth for you, and you will be to him as God (Elohiym). 17 You will take this rod in your hand, with which you will do the signs.”
18 So Moses returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren in Egypt and see whether they are still alive.”
Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”
19 The LORD (Jehovah) said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.”
20 Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. Moses took the rod of God (Elohiym) in his hand.
21 The LORD (Jehovah) said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. 22 Then you will say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD (Jehovah), “Israel is My son, My firstborn. 23 I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn.”’”
24 It happened on the way, at the encampment, that the LORD (Jehovah) met him and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!”
26 He let him go. Then she said, “You are a husband of blood!” —because of the circumcision.
27 The LORD (Jehovah) said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” He went and met him on the mountain of God (Elohiym) and kissed him.
28 Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD (Jehovah) who had sent him, and all the signs which He had commanded him.
29 Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered all the elders of the children of Israel.
30 Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD (Jehovah) had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people.
31 The people believed; and when they heard that the LORD (Jehovah) had visited the children of Israel and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.
God’s name:
Jehovah – Self-Existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Mighty God
Adonay – Proper name of God
God’s character:
Patience
Have you argued with the person who told you to do the impossible? What they asked you to do was inconceivable to you, and you didn’t know how you would go about such an undertaking. You wanted the person to appoint someone more qualified than you. However, the person insisted you were the person for the job.
Moses stood before Jehovah and argued with him about proof and qualifications about what Jehovah asked of him. He even asked Elohiym to send someone else. Yet Jehovah gave him the signs to give to the people that He had sent Moses to them and Pharaoh. Then Jehovah told him He also sent Aaron to go with him.
When Moses complied and got his father-in-law’s permission to go back to Egypt, Moses took his wife and son, and returned to Egypt. However, Elohiym met him on the way and intended to kill him, until his wife circumcised her son. When Jehovah left him alone, he met Aaron in the wilderness and told him everything Jehovah told him.
You have a calling on your life. When Jehovah told you what He wanted you to do, did you argue with Him? Did you ask Him to let someone more qualified do the task? Did you give Him reasons why you were the wrong person for the job? If you have, you are not alone. It’s not wrong to argue with Jehovah. Know however, Jehovah will always win the argument.
When you accept the task Jehovah set for you, you will find He also qualified you for the mission. You will have everything you need to complete the undertaking He gave you, including help to see it through.
Let’s pray: Father, the work You set before me seems impossible. Help me to do Your work to the best of my ability. Give me help when necessary, and let people know You appointed me for the work. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
