Should Joe Biden's State of the Union speech have moved the needle for his campaign? I suppose that depends on who you talk to. But the fact is that the SOTU largely changed nothing for President Joe Biden and in some aspects of it, made matters worse.
Here are some recent numbers from a Harris X/Forbes poll highlighting the numbers after delivering the State of the Union:
• Before the SOTU Biden's approval ratings were at 39%. They dropped to 37% after the SOTU.
• Trump is beating Joe Biden in a mock general 52-48, unchanged from before the SOTU.
• 52% of viewers had an unfavorable view of the speech.
• In the general electorate view, 44% had a favorable view of the president's speech while 56% found it unfavorable.
• 54% said the president offered no new solutions to the issues they are facing today.
• 60% called the Biden presidency more divisive.
• More than half said they found his speech more divisive than unifying.
• 54% continue to have questions about Biden's age and 56% still have questions about Biden's fitness for office.
• 56% said the president did an inadequate job addressing immigration.
• In a question posed that offered Cornell West, Robert F. Kennedy and Jill Stein as potential second choice candidates, Trump still handily beats Joe Biden 41-35.
• 64% said they do not want Joe Biden to run again while 54% said Trump should not run again.
• The ultimate conclusion was that the speech did not move the dial, and was not a breakthrough event that is able to put him into a different trajectory.
Based on this polling and what we should have expected to see, the fact that there was no movement to speak of in his favor, the overwhelming conclusion is that the speech largely failed to deliver anything new or exciting in the eyes of most Americans.

So it’s Trump vs. Biden again. I really hope there won’t be a repeat of 2020.
Biden was too hyped up during his SOTU. That was weird.

@lovebuglena But of course. Not as much as I would have expected. But he did.

I did not watch the speech precisely because I did not expect him to tell the nation anything new that we didn’t already know or hear about already.

@porwest I’ll leave the watching to you, and then I’ll stay informed through reading your commentary. Lol

I watched for a few reasons. For one I am a bit of a political junkie. I write about politics and so it is useful to have fodder to write about what he said. I like to know what exactly is said so when I argue the points made by the left here, on X, other social media or even in my own circles I can make valid arguments and rebuttals. And, frankly, I feel it is important to be informed.

Nobody likes an angry old man who lies to the American public more than Pinocchio lied to Geppetto.
If President Trump can rein in his derisive insults and stay on message, he has an excellent chance to make history again as the only other President who won, lost and then won the Presidency again. Grover Cleveland was the first.
