I Think I Will Finally Call Them Next Week

I think we are officially done. With cable that is. I sort of got the final go ahead from the wife last night and so next week I will probably finally call AT&T U-verse and tell them I will keep the Internet but kill the cable. We get enough programming between the Netflix, Prime and Hulu we currently pay for and the free ones like the Roku Channel and Freevee. I hardly watch any TV at all, so for me it doesn't really matter. She's the TV wonk. So, if it is okay with her I am definitely fine with it. Especially if it saves us a ton of money, which it should. Our Internet portion of our total bill accounts for about $60. The rest is the cable and our total bill is $240 a month, so cutting the cable out should save us around $180 a month, although I am sure we won't get off that easy. The actual savings will probably be $150-$160 a month but I will still take it. For us it is not an issue of "can we afford it," but the wifey says there's just nothing ever on it. We are getting what we want out of the streaming services and the only thing she might miss is the news. So, we will see how that goes and make some adjustments if needed in the future. But for now, I think I will finally call them next week and just tell them to cancel our cable services. Incidentally, I will still pay the bill amount. The amount we don't have to pay to the cable company will go directly into our investment accounts.

We got rid of cable about 5 years ago and have never regretted it. Many of the networks websites allow you to watch the news free.

@porwest it isnt worth what they charge for it. The money can be spent in better places.

I am hoping our experience will be the same. It's just getting way too expensive and not hardly worth it.

@Happy2BeMe The worst part is you have hundreds of channels and only really watch about 1% of them, and the bill just goes up and up and up every year with no new services or goodies to speak of. I will be hopeful when the plug is pulled we don't miss any part of it.

Being you have ruku & other network services she can still have the news to watch if she wants. I know a friend that has ruku & he gets a lot on it, we just have you tube through the internet when we cut the cable, our bill went from 200 a month to just a 100 a mon & that was 10 yrs ago,

I am going to start looking for news stuff on the free side of our services. I still have not gotten rid of the cable, but I really want to.

We don't watch enough TV to warrant paying out for anything although we do now have Netflix. I've no idea what we pay. Vince looks after all that.

@porwest I think ours is something similar. I know it's not very much.

@JudyEv My only fear is that if eventually all the streaming services you'll need combined comes at the same price as cable (which I fear may be the direction), what's the point? Eventually they will get you one way or the other.

Our Netflix runs about $16 a month, so it's not awful.

We switched from spectrum to fios. Our bill is in the $220 range. It ain’t cheap but cheaper than we were paying spectrum. I know Roku is a device but what’s the Roku channel?

Just another streaming channel on the device. It's free. You just get a few commercials.

I am livid over our last bill. It was over $300 for TV, phone and internet. They found a promotion and cut the bill $10. They really should be ashamed for charging so much. Have a good day.

Even with the $10 discount I'd have had words for them. It's outrageous what they charge.

@porwest It's beyond outrageous...and it keeps going up and up. Ridiculous.

@LindaOHio It never goes down, that's for sure. And it irks me that they only ever offer promotions when you complain about what you are paying.

We also hardly watch TV. It has been more than 2 years now that the cable has also been removed. Because I don't watch much TV. Watch Netflix, YouTube on mobile. We also charge Rs 350 per month in Indian Rupees. So it has saved this money. I use it for other things

My savings would go directly into investments.
