Day 60 – Sacrifice
Exodus 12:1 JEHOVAH spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “This month will be your beginning of months; it will be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month every man will take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household. 4 If the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take it according to the number of the persons; according to each man’s need you will make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb will be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 You will keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel will kill it at twilight. 7 They will take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. 8 Then they will eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they will eat it. 9 Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fire—its head with its legs and its entrails. 10 You will let none of it remain until morning, and what remains of it until morning you will burn with fire. 11 Thus you will eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So, you will eat it in haste. It is JEHOVAH’S Passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am JEHOVAH. 13 Now the blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague will not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. 14 This day will be to you a memorial; and you will keep it as a feast to JEHOVAH throughout your generations. You will keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance. 15 Seven days you will eat unleavened bread. On the first day you will remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person will be cut off from Israel. 16 On the first and seventh day there will be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work will be done on them; but that which everyone must eat—that only may be prepared by you. 17 You will observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore, you will observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance. 18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, you will eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month in the evening. 19 For seven days no leaven will be found in your houses, since whoever eats what is leavened, that same person will be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a stranger or a native of the land. 20 You will eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellings you will eat unleavened bread.’”
21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families and kill the Passover lamb. 22 You shall take hyssop, dip it in the blood in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood in the basin. None of you will go out of the door of his house until morning. 23 For JEHOVAH will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, JEHOVAH will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. 24 You will observe this thing as an ordinance for you and your sons forever. 25 It will happen when you come to the land which JEHOVAH will give you, just as He promised, that you will keep this service. 26 It will be, when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ 27 you will say, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice of JEHOVAH, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.’” The people bowed their heads and worshiped.
28 Then the children of Israel went away and did so; just as JEHOVAH had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.
29 It happened at midnight that JEHOVAH struck the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of livestock.
30 So Pharaoh rose in the night, he, his servants, and the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.
31 Then he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, “Rise, go out from among my people, both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve JEHOVAH as you have said. 32 Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also.”
33 The Egyptians urged the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste. For they said, “We will all be dead.”
34 The people took their dough before it was leavened, having their kneading bowls bound up in their clothes on their shoulders.
35 Now the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses, and asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing.
36 JEHOVAH gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus, they plundered the Egyptians.
37 Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children.
38 A mixed multitude went up with them also, and flocks and herds—a great deal of livestock.
39 They baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.
40 Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.
41 It came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years—on the very same day—it came to pass that all the armies of JEHOVAH went out from the land of Egypt.
42 It is a night of solemn observance to JEHOVAH for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of JEHOVAH, a solemn observance for the children of Israel throughout their generations.
43 JEHOVAH said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner will eat it. 44 Every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. 45 A sojourner and a hired servant will not eat it. 46 In one house it will be eaten; you will not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor will you break one of its bones. 47 All the congregation of Israel will keep it. 48 When a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to JEHOVAH, let his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he will be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it. 49 One law will be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you.”
50 Thus the children of Israel did; as JEHOVAH commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.
51 And it came to pass, on that very same day, that JEHOVAH brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.

What have you done to ensure no one in your home comes to harm? What precautions do you take?
JEHOVAH gave Moses and Aaron instructions for the redemption of His people. They were to take a year-old lamb without blemish, kill it, and eat it standing, with their coats and sandals on, and a staff in their hands. They were to kill it on the fourteenth day of Nisan, the first month of the year, in the evening. They were to take the blood from the lamb and put it on the lintel and doorposts of the house so the death angel would pass over their homes. It would forever be known as Passover and celebrated every year to commemorate the night JEHOVAH freed them from slavery. He also instructed Moses and Aaron about who could eat the Passover lamb—only those who were circumcised. Anyone who wasn’t circumcised and ate it would be cut off from Israel. Those instructions were for everyone who ate it, including strangers.
Everything JEHOVAH did, He did for a purpose. Today, you know Passover as the night Yeshuwa died, redeeming you from sin, and freeing you from bondage to Satan. He poured out His blood on the cross. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Mashiyach and Lord, you put the blood on the doorposts of your heart, confirming you belonged to Him and Satan no longer controlled your life. Yeshuwa broke your chains and freed you from slavery.
Passover this year falls on April 22 and ends on April 30. Though we celebrate Easter this month, the Jewish calendar has thirteen months this year. Which makes April or Nisan as the first month on the Jewish calendar. Christians celebrate Easter or Resurrection Sunday on the first Sunday after the third new moon of the year. Resurrection Sunday and Passover don’t always line up, especially when there are thirteen new moons in a year.
On the night Yeshuwa died, He ate the Passover with His disciples. As He did, He showed them He was their Mashiyach when He gave them the unleavened bread set aside for the Mashiyach. Passover would never be the same for them again. In Him they saw the confirmation of what JEHOVAH began in Egypt with the death, burial, and resurrection on the third day when Yeshuwa rose from death to give them life and forever break Satan’s chains from their lives.
The author of Hebrews shows us what Yeshuwa did for you.
Hebrews 9:11 But Christos came as High Priest (Archiereus, ar-khee-er-yuce) of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christos, who through the eternal Spirit (Pneuma) offered Himself without spot to God (Theos), cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God (Theos)?
Yeshuwa redeemed you from the law with His blood. When you accepted His sacrifice, you became His child, no longer a slave to sin or the law, but adopted into His family to live free from bondage. Many Christians don’t feel the freedom Yeshuwa provided for them on the cross. They listen to Satan’s lies and live in sin.
You need to embrace your salvation given to you with the redeeming blood of Yeshuwa Christos. When you do, you will know the freedom He offered, and His blood will cover you.
Yeshuwa is the perfect sacrifice for sin. He is the spotless Lamb of Theos.
Let’s pray: Father, let Your Son’s redeeming blood cover me as I accept Your Son as my Savior and Lord. Let me walk in freedom from Satan’s lies, knowing I am Your child. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
