Day 103 – Circumcision of the Heart Leviticus 12:1 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘If a woman has conceived, and borne a male child, then she will be unclean seven days as in the days of her customary impurity she will be unclean. 3 On the eighth day the priest will circumcise the flesh of his foreskin. 4 She will then continue in the blood of her purification thirty-three days. She will not touch any hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary until she fulfills the days of her purification. 5 ‘If she bears a female child, then she will be unclean two weeks, as in her customary impurity, and she will continue in the blood of her purification sixty-six days. 6 ‘When she fulfills the days of her purification, whether for a son or a daughter, she will bring to the priest a lamb of the first year as a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove as a sin offering, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 7 Then he will offer it before JEHOVAH and make atonement for her. She will be clean from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who has borne a male or a female. 8 If she is unable to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. Then the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’” God’s name: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Yeshuwa – Jesus Theos – Mighty God Pneuma – Spirit, Breath God’s character: Instructor When a mother gives birth to a male child, the hospital staff will give the mother a consent form for the doctor to perform circumcision on the baby. Typically, they do this before the baby leaves the hospital. Because babies do not stay in the hospital more than a day now, the doctors need to give the baby vitamin K to help with blood clotting during circumcision. JEHOVAH gave specific instructions for circumcision after the birth of a male child. The priest needed to perform circumcision eight days after birth. When the days of her purification ended, the mother brought the burnt offering and sin offering to the priest. He told Moses what to sacrifice in the case of wealthy and poor people. JEHOVAH made a covenant with His people through Abraham when He told him to circumcise the male child on the eighth day after birth. He made it a law when He gave Moses the laws of who performed the circumcision and when they were to offer the burnt and sin offering. When He did so, He paved the way for Yeshuwa’s birth. Luke 2:21 When eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. 22 Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb will be called holy to JEHOVAH”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” Jewish people still circumcise male infants on the eighth day. The circumcision is called a Brit Milah which means Covenant Circumcision. The person who performs the Brit Milah is a Mohel, someone specially trained in the craft of circumcision. Typical circumcisions are held in the morning. Before a circumcision takes place the mohel inspects the child. If he suspects the bilirubin is too high or there is other concerns, they are to see the pediatrician to make certain there are no risks involved. Once everything is ready for the circumcision, preparation is made by the father who pulls an all-nighter, studying the Torah. A celebration is held the Friday before the circumcision in the baby’s honor. Traditional foods include beer and chickpeas. The circumcision is held on the eighth day, even when the eighth day falls on Shabbat and Jewish holidays only in the case of natural birth, not a C section. When it came to circumcision for Christians, Paul told the people the only circumcision they needed was the circumcision of the heart. They didn’t force Gentile believers to undergo the same circumcision JEHOVAH required of His people. Romans 2:25 For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26 Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? 27 Will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law? 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Pneuma, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from Theos. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit circumcised your heart. When He did, you became a Jew inwardly. Therefore, when you praise Theos, you do it from your heart. Psalm 111:1 Praise JEHOVAH! I will praise JEHOVAH with my whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation. You have every reason to praise JEHOVAH because He circumcised your life and made it right before Him through the death and resurrection of His Son, Yeshuwa. Let’s pray: Father, let my lips sing Your praise because You circumcised my life so I can live with You forever. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. My best friend had said that when she had given birth to her son, her Jewish doctor told her not circumcise him. She didn't.
