Well, it's the first time ever heard this word and it's also the first time that there is such a thing.
Pseudocyesis is said to be like a delusion of pregnancy. The person thinks she's pregnant and also has the same symptoms as a pregnant woman, like a swollen belly, stretch marks and alike.
I wonder how a person ends up having a swollen belly because of a pregnancy delusion.

When I was a baby, my parents' were friends with a couple who wanted so badly to have a child - they had difficultly conceiving. I think the woman had something like this . . . she eventually had some kind of growth inside her that in her heart she believed she was pregnant. After tests, doctors said it was not a baby and she would need to have it surgically removed. She absolutely refused. The husband tried to convince her it was not a baby, and after asking my parents for their help too, the friendship sadly ended.

@HaruLoid I don't think my parents ever heard from them after that time. Apparently the wife had strong religious beliefs and no one could convince her that this was not a baby. I think she felt unsupported with all telling her she needed to have this surgery - so we don't even know what happened to them in the end.

It's probably difficult to overcome this kind of illness because you really have to convince yourself that what you believe is true isn't really true since it's just a pigment of your imagination.
Just hearing it is painful.

An article says that it happens when a woman has been trying to get pregnant for a long time to the point that they instill it into their head, making themselves and everyone else believe that she is actually pregnant when in fact she is not.
