Wearing pyjamas to go to dinner

The photo has nothing to do with the post but shows the hail we had yesterday. This post was prompted by @xFiacre who wrote about descending standards in restaurants. I went to dinner at a friends' place last night. They live in the village just 11 doors up from us. Their grand-daughter would also be there and we know her quite well. It was a good chance to catch up with her. She is a lovely young lady but she turned up in pyjamas, which was a bit of a shock. I’ve seen young people in shopping centres in pyjamas and it always strikes me as a bit odd. My mother would turn in her grave but times change and we can only go with them. There is no way I’d wear my nightie in public.

I have seen young people dressed with weird clothing, but NEVER someone wearing a pyjamas to go out to dine or to shop.

@JudyEv I remember when we lived in Monte Carlo, women walking their dogs very early in the morning, still wearing their pyjamas and a bathrobe on top. No one would ever do this here, you dress, then you go out.

I've seen young people shopping in pyjamas but not in restaurants. I'm not sure what her grandmother thought about it.

@LadyDuck That would look so awful, very tacky. They can't have much pride in their appearance.

I've seen people in public in their pajamas too. I agree with you. I would never wear my pajamas in public.

@JudyEv Me too. The only time I wore pajamas in public was when they had pajama day at school. It was fun to see what everyone else had for pajamas. That happened only during homecoming week when they had all kinds of crazy activities for the students.

@just4him I've heard of those days at schools too. That would be a lot of fun.

There is a paradigm shift in behaviours when it comes to today's generation. As kids we would keep asking our uncles and aunts when they would visit us and stay with us but I have not heard that from any of my nieces and nephews as yet (lol)

That's true. I had several aunts and uncles that I loved dearly.

It's a silly idea really. I guess they're too lazy to bother to change.

I see so many people wearing their fuzzy pajama pants out. I can't decide what I think of it. We wore some crazy pants in the 70s

What I wear for pajamas woulld not work in public. On days we have pajama days at school I wear a T shirt and flannel pants, but they would not be comfy to sleep in. I did see, a few years back, girls in lingerie style sleepwear shopping in the mall. I could not do that either.

Pajamas are better than what I saw the other day. A woman got out of her car to go into the shopping center and I kid you not, her shorts were so tight and short, you could almost see her bare butt. Plus, she had a tank top on that was tight. I can't believe she would go out in public like that

I've seen similar too. I guess they must think they look 'hot' or something but really they just really tacky. And the bigger the person, the tighter the gear. It just looks awful.

@JudyEv yes, the woman I saw was pretty hefty. It really was a revolting sight.

I just cringe when I see young people dress like that, although I will admit I see much less of it the past couple of years. It is not a nice fashion, more of a poor habit that many young people go through. I feel like it is alot like the yoga pant phase, which many young people go through.

@judyev I’ve seen “No Pyjamas” signs in supermarkets which gave the tabloid press lots to talk about. Wearing night wear beyond the confines of one’s boudoir is not a trend I intend giving into and aren’t we all so thankful.

@JudyEv We also have signs for No Football Jerseys (code for no sectarianism). What I really hope for is No Loud Talking.

I hadn't seen such signs here. We do see 'no singlets, no thongs (flip flops)' in some hotels.

I have read about people working from home and on Zoom meetings they appear as if they just got out of bed. Maybe times have changed and we have to catch up!

I would always feel sleepy if I wear pyjamas the whole day. It’s not proper to use pyjamas in a restaurant.

I agree. I can't bear slopping around in pyjamas for the whole day. I like to get dressed as soon as I get out of bed.

@JudyEv Maybe this is a new fad with the generations to come. I agree with you and I also think it is rude, but, maybe we are of a different generation that believes putting on clothes to go out is better than pyjamas.

Lol, that sounds funny for Australia, here in the US its done all the time, a common practice. When I worked in a fastfood restaurant at night, it was common. I never figured it out. Lol.
