I brought Vince home today

I brought Vince home today. He had to wait for this and that doctor, then the physiotherapist and the pharmacist but eventually I was able to pick him up and bring him home. We had to go straight from the hospital to his own doctor so he could tell us how many of the blood thinners Vince needed to take. We have to go back there tomorrow for a blood test as the amount of blood thinners will change according to the results of the test. Then we go back next Tuesday and perhaps twice a week for a few weeks. So it certainly isn’t all over yet. However, it’s good to know the medical profession hasn’t just dropped him but are continually to look out for him. The photo shows what we call ‘press studs’. These were left attached to him to make it easy to hook up if they needed an ECG but they forgot to take them off before he came home.

I’m glad to hear that he is home now and on the road to recovery. I’m sure it will be a different experience for you both, it does seem like the aftercare will be good. While you are taking care of Vince, don’t forget to be kind to yourself, too. I have personally discovered just how important that truly can be.

Thanks for the advice, Marie. Vince is as much concerned for me as he is for himself, bless him. I feel sure we'll muddle through.

@MarieCoyle He's had short visits from friends each day and that is good for his morale too. And takes his mind off himself for a little while.

Interesting... I wonder what you could repurpose them as... Good to hear that Vince made it home.

I didn't bother with thinking of a repurpose. They've gone straight in the bin.

Good to hear that. Your biggest challenge could be to keep Vince from becoming active too soon. And of course, doctor visits amd medication. My best wishes are with you !

Thanks, Anna. We're doing well so far and we can't get over how attentive our doctor is. We landed on our feet when we signed up with him.

@judyev That’s great news. I’m sure he’s glad to be home. If you have to stay in hospital to recuperate you still get the impression that you’re sick. Getting home is a sure sign of progress. I hope he’s a good patient for nurse Judy. I came home once with a cannula left in my arm - it took a while to pluck up the courage to pull it out. I have a thing about needles.

@JudyEv I wish I was allowed to be play classical music loudly, especially late at night. I adore opera but that is a solo foible.

He's pretty good but being quite deaf he likes the music up quite loud. It's classical and mostly I like it too but sometimes it starts getting to me. Vince still has dressings to take off but the doctor said to leave them until a visit to him next week and if by chance he bleeds they'll be better able to deal with it.

I thought we might be left to get on with it but that isn't the case at all. We really feel very reassured that we have the professional support should we need it.

Now the next segment of his recovery begins, under your and the doctor's supervision. I am sure that you will be busy running him here and there and trying keep the house quiet so that he can rest. Have a good first night with him back home.

With luck he'll come off these particular blood thinners soon and go on to ones that aren't quite so fussy about times and other issues.

You will have to be very careful with his diet - some food substances are also blood thinners. Like garlic, tumeric etc.

Thanks for that. We've been told to avoid grapefruit as it has an enzyme that interferes with quite a few medications.

@JudyEv I am so glad he is home and just so you have to go back there and hopefully he will not have to go back there again. I hope he can deal with them as an outpatient person now. Good thing you both do not have jobs to go to that you can go back and forth in between home and the hospital. When can he drive? Now, I wish the medical profession would care about Linda's husband too. How long does he have to carry around the studs?

My hubby is allergic to the adhesive on those press studs. He itches and has big red marks on his skin for days. Vince is getting more intense care than my hubby ever got. He didn't have to keep going to the doctor after his surgery. Well, I'm glad Vince is home; and I wish you both all the best. Have a great day.

Vince is sensitive to some of the bandaging. He is quite red under the adhesive patches. I don't think they itch though.
