Day 134 – Fear Numbers 13:1 JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you will send a man, everyone a leader among them.” 3 Moses sent them from the Wilderness of Paran according to the command of JEHOVAH, men who were heads of the children of Israel. 4 These were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur; 5 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori; 6 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh; 7 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph; 8 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun; 9 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu; 10 from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi; 11 from the tribe of Joseph, that is, from the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi; 12 from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli; 13 from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael; 14 from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi; 15 from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi. 16 These are the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua. 17 Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way into the South, and go up to the mountains, 18 and see what the land is like: whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, few or many; 19 whether the land they dwell in is good or bad; whether the cities they inhabit are like camps or strongholds; 20 whether the land is rich or poor; and whether there are forests there or not. Be of good courage. Bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now it was the season of the first ripe grapes. 21 So they went up and spied out the land from the Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath. 22 They went up through the South and came to Hebron; Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) 23 Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some pomegranates and figs. 24 The place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down there. 25 They returned from spying on the land after forty days. 26 They departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 Then they told him and said, “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” 31 The men who went up with him said, “We are unable to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” 32 They gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. 33 There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” 14:1 The congregation lifted their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. 2 And the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why has JEHOVAH brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?” 4 They said to one another, “Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.” 5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. 6 Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; 7 and spoke to the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 If JEHOVAH delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ 9 Only do not rebel against JEHOVAH, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and JEHOVAH is with us. Do not fear them.” 10 The congregation said to stone them with stones. Now the glory of JEHOVAH appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before the children of Israel. God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Provider When people plan to build homes or businesses, they search out the ideal location. They want to know what the land is like, whether it will produce gardens of fruit, vegetables, or flowers. They want to know if the location of their business will produce customer traffic or not. They test everything, look at everything, and decide based on their findings. JEHOVAH told Moses to send out men to search the land He was giving them. He wanted His people to know the land was everything He told them it would be. Moses added to JEHOVAH’S command to search out the land. He told the spies to look at everything, the people, their towns, the fruit of the land, mountains, and forests. The people returned with a glowing report about the land, but a derogatory report about the people about whom they said were mightier than they. Most of the spies wanted to return to Egypt, while Joshua and Caleb tried to convince the people they could take the land and make it theirs as JEHOVAH intended. When you accepted Yeshuwa as your Savior and Lord, you accepted His will for your life. When He gave you an assignment, it wasn’t up for debate. He didn’t give you the option to accept or decline what He told you to do. He expected your obedience to Him. Yet many Christians debate about what JEHOVAH or Yeshuwa tell them to do. They form committees, bring reports, and spend months to years deciding whether it’s a good opportunity or bad one. JEHOVAH told Moses to send out spies to search out the land to see what He was giving them. He didn’t tell them to do anything more than that. It was Moses who added an addendum to JEHOVAH’S instructions. People will always try to add an addendum to what Yeshuwa tells them to do. They want to know the feasibility of the project JEHOVAH gave them. The feasibility wasn’t up for discussion. Yeshuwa told them to do or go, not to debate. He knew the outcome of His decision and how it would benefit the body of Christ. Yet Satan will always send fear into the people to prevent what JEHOVAH planned for them. JEHOVAH told the people He was sending them to a land flowing with milk and honey. When the spies returned, they agreed, it was a land flowing with milk and honey, but. It is the ‘but’ that will stop every project and keep it in committee until everyone has a consensus on how to proceed. The problem is that no one will ever fully agree. When Yeshuwa tells you to do something do it. Don’t let Satan take away the benefits and blessings He has for you. Satan wants you to form committees, debate, do anything that will keep the kingdom of JEHOVAH stalled. Are you on the committee? Disband the committee and do what Yeshuwa told you and go. When you do, you will see His hand of blessing on the work He gave you. Let’s pray: Father, help me to be like Joshua and Caleb and do what You told me to do without hesitation. Keep Satan’s fiery darts of deceit, doubt, and denial away from me. Instead, instill in me Your purpose to go where You lead. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. The devil will always try to put road blocks in our way. Don't give him the victory.
