I've Heard that Gnats Don't Bite

I've heard that gnats don't bite, which I really don't believe. Today, I had a gnat fly into my left eye. I immediately killed it, the insect was dead on my face.
My eye was itching like crazy, as if I'd been bitten. My cornea started getting red and swollen on the left side. When I finally got home, I used some Visine eye drops. This worked good, but the itching was still a problem.
Years back, my paternal grandma said, "If you get something in your eye, don't rub it! Eventually, your tears will bring whatever it is to the end."
About two hours later, this happened and all the itching stopped. Whatever was still in my eye, got washed out by my tears. The redness is going away, I'm still using the eyedrops. Gnats are awful bugs and I do believe they bite

It's good to hear that your grandma's advice helped and that your eye is feeling better now. Gnats can indeed be pesky, and they can sometimes cause irritation when they come into contact with sensitive areas like the eyes.

@kobesbuddy They sure can be a nuisance, Kharla! Flying in groups can make them even more bothersome. Hopefully, you find a way to keep them at bay!

Oh, they bite. I would get bitten by them all the time. I would scratch welts on my body because of them.

Glad your eye is all right, Anyway checked on the net and this is what it says so you are right
Yes, but only some types of gnats female gnats will bite you. However, it’s not the same kind of bite you would receive from a mosquito or a bed bug.

At first, the itching was terrible. After using the eye drops, it improved almost instantly.

I am sorry to learn that a gnat bit you in the eye. Thank goodness that you took the advice of your paternal grandmother on dealing with the itchy eye.
