Day 138 – Work Numbers 15:32 Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. 33 Those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to the congregation. 34 They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him. 35 Then JEHOVAH said to Moses, “The man must die; the congregation will stone him with stones outside the camp.” Names of God: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Mighty God Yeshuwa – Jesus Theos – Supreme Divinity, God Kurios – Supreme Authority, God Iesous – Jesus God’s character: Holy Today everyone would blast social media if someone died because they worked on a specific day. People would want those who killed the person to spend the rest of their lives in prison or face the death penalty for what they did. JEHOVAH gave the children of Israel a set of commandments they were to obey. Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you will labor and do your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of JEHOVAH your Elohiym. In it you will do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger within your gates. 11 For in six days JEHOVAH made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, JEHOVAH blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. JEHOVAH told Israel He hallowed the Sabbath, making it holy. He rested from the work He did with creation, and He expected His people to do the same. Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth and finished the host of them. 2 On the seventh day Elohiym ended His work which He had done and rested on the seventh day from His work. 3 Then Elohiym blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from His work which Elohiym had created and made. Since Elohiym rested on the Sabbath, His people were to rest also. Does it make it right to work on the Sabbath just because you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord? Or do you believe that since Yeshuwa healed on the Sabbath it gives you the right to work on the Sabbath? Matthew 12:1 At that time, Iesous went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. 2 When the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!” 3 He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of Theos and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? 6 Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. 7 If you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of Man is Kurios even of the Sabbath.” 9 When He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 Behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. They asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” —that they might accuse Him. 11 Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. Did Yeshuwa destroy the law when He walked through the grain fields and His disciples ate the grain? No. They didn’t harvest the grain, they plucked it and ate it. Did He destroy the law when He healed the man in the synagogue on the Sabbath? No. He did good on the Sabbath when He healed the man. Yeshuwa is your example of how to live your life. He did good on the Sabbath. The man who gathered sticks profaned the Sabbath because he was working. Elohiym told His people they were not to work on the Sabbath; therefore, He instructed Moses and His people they were to stone the person. How do you spend the Lord’s Day? Do you work or do you do good? Elohiym gave the commandments, not as suggestions, but as law. When you work on the Lord’s Day, you violate His commandment about working on the Sabbath. Let’s pray: Father, David said Your law was his delight. When I obey Your law, it becomes my delight because I know You bless me when I obey You. I know I cannot keep Your commandments, but I do my best to do what is right. Show me how to do good on the Lord’s Day, so it will bring favor and blessing to my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
