A gift of roses

Friends came to visit today, and most especially to see Vince after his operation. They used to live about a kilometre from where we lived near Donnybrook. They moved to Perth about twelve months before we did but they are in one of the very northern suburbs while we are much further south. So we don’t catch up very often. The wife had hundreds of rose bushes on their five-acre property and she is now President of the West Australian Rose Society. Her husband is treasurer and is also a volunteer fire-fighter. They are about 7 or 8 years younger than us. They brought us the beautiful bunch of roses that you can see in the photo. The roses are strongly perfumed and I can smell them from where I’m sitting. They gladden my heart just to see them there.

That was nice of them. My roses are blooming, too... deep red. Unfortunately, it was too bright outside to see the image on the screen so the top's cut off but you can see the hosta under it.

@flapiz They don't seem to know. He used to get them before the operation but they are worse now. So far, we're not having much luck controlling the pain.

He's quite good but we can't stop the cramp happening in his shoulders and neck.

We went up there once on the train which was a very easy way to visit. The husband picked us up from the train station which was only a short distance away.

@RasmaSandra Thanks very much for the link. I guess the message I got from reading it is to take painkillers if you need them. He's been trying not to overdo the tablets but the pain is starting to get to him.

@1creekgirl I think maybe it's now more like severe shoulder pain rather than cramps. Shoulder pain is apparently common but we weren't told to expect it. We see a doctor tomorrow so will talk to them about it.

@JudyEv Roses require a lot of care here, so I don't plant them. Plus we fight aphids like crazy if we have roses.

He is having a lot of shoulder pain. We're not really sure that it's part of the whole process but it seems like it might be.
