What would it have been like 40 or 50 years ago? Do you think people were more caring and kind-hearted back in the day - or are they about the same in this present time?
Yesterday a bus carrying about 30 passengers collided with a water truck. The collision took the life of a young woman who was sitting in the front and sent 20 other passengers to the hospital.
That was sad, and so were the reports l heard that people stole the damaged bus radio and anything else they could lift from the bus. They also helped themselves to the passengers belongings left behind.
Others were more interested in taking pictures and videos instead of helping those in distress. What a world we live in.

It is a shame that people today do not care about the suffering of other persons when they are in need of help.

Many ruthless exploit such situations and I am not sure if this would be the same story in the good old days.

I'll admit it's gotten worse, but at the same time it's fairly the same. Growing up, the name of the game was f around and find out. If you wanted to find out something, your parents or teachers would often say 'look it up'. Information wasn't handed out freely. In some instances, you had more caring and compassionate people. Parents could help watch each other's children. But, at the same time, you still had people knifing each other in the street. The color of your skin decided weather you got service, medical care and where you sat in schools. My school had two pools built. The "large" pool for the "white" students. And the "small" pool for the "black" students. If you said anything offencive, you would be ignored, or someone would introduce you to the knuckle sandwitch.
So, I don't know if anything is much better. Though with the advent of social media, other people's problems become everyone's business. We live in a world where you have to document everything. If it's not used as entertainment, it's used to cover your butt.

I agree with everything you have pointed out. Some things have improved while other things have remained the same or gotten worse. I remember the days when "the village helped raise the kids". These days it is difficult to try correcting other people's kids. Recently a mother attacked a teacher in the school's staff room - and the two kids who were the troublemakers joined the attack....

I think it was better back in the days. People nowadays are so into gadgets and social media. More are not able to educate themselves how to care for others.

Though crimes were common throughout history, I recall people were more caring.
I was used to friends walking in to have a chat during weekends, but that is rare now as people pretend to be busy otherwise.
It seems a reflex reaction to shoot videos of distressed people rather than helping them.

Yes, 40 or 50 years people cared more about people than they do now. That was such a gentler and caring time.

I do believe the world was a better place when I was a child and young woman.

That is really sad. I noticed that it's quite common nowadays that when an accident occurred, people were busy taking pictures or videos instead of helping those in need.
