A Test for My Honesty

Today, I did a little bit of grocery shopping at Neiman's. This is a local grocery store, their prices are a bit higher than Wal Mart.
In the deli department, I purchased two chicken thighs. The man put them in a styrofoam takeout box. Jay loves fried chicken(dark meat)and I never fry anything.
When I got to the checkout, I realized that I was being charged for one piece of chicken. I told the lady there was possibly a mistake, only charging me for one piece.
She looked in the box(I asked her to) and sure enough, there were two pieces. Then, she thanked me for being honest and bringing this to her attention.
Since I was a little girl, I have a terrible conscience. I stole a pair of pink Barbie shoes and felt like a hardened criminal:( So I put the shoes back in the little plastic bag, at a 5&10 Dime Store in downtown East Tawas.
The heavy heart lifted and from that minute forward, I realized how important honesty is to God.
I don't get away with anything! The Lord is looking down from heaven, 24/7

Jay was just quoting this scripture the other day! Yes, this is the truth, God's word to his children.

@kobesbuddy I do remember the saying about "What goes around comes around." or "Karma will get you."

You did the right thing. I try to but might not have even noticed that

At first I didn't think it was any big deal. $1.99 isn't very much money:)

It's great that you were honest about the extra piece of chicken at the store. Your story about the Barbie shoes shows how your conscience has always guided you to do the right thing. Honesty is indeed important, and it's wonderful that you carry that value with you.

Some people like coming out on top, even if it's not honest.

I tend to do that too. I have never stolen anything. I could never sleep at night if I did. You did a good thing! Have a great weekend.

When I stole those Barbie shoes(worth about 25cents), my conscience bothered me all the time! Until I decided enough was enough, and returned those shoes. Since that day, my time for being a thief is over.

What a good witness to the store workers. I can remember having my son help me return a nickel that I had been given extra in change at a store. I know he soaked up that lesson.

I had a man give me change for a 20 dollar bill instead of a 10. When I got to my car, I realized what happened. So, I went back and told the man what he had done. He got mad about it:( I had returned his money, he didn't like to admit he had made a mistake! @GardenGerty

If we cheat other for small amounts, it's a door opened to be dishonest in all ways!
