I love it when a flower I enjoyed so much one year comes back again the next. It is really something to look forward to from year to year. So I have a list of flowers that are perennials. Though they are more costly than the others they have long bloom periods and offer their loveliness from spring to fall. * Black-eyed Susan's- Pretty vibrant daisies dazzle any year. * Coneflowers(or Echinacea)- with vibrant petals with shades of purple, pink, with and yellow. They also have medicinal properties. * Salvia( or sage)- Beautiful spikes of blue, purple, pink, and red that bloom from late spring through fall. * Coreopsis- This one blooms from early summer to fall in pink, red, and orange shades. * Daylily- Need to be in well-drained soil and they will bloom from early summer to fall in shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. * Blanket Flowers- a hardy perennial that blooms from late spring through fall. * Shasta Daisies- lovely daisy-like drought-resistant flowers like well-drained soil and full sun. They are white with yellow centers. * Russian Sage- Silver gray foliage and lavender flowers do well in well-drained soil and full sun. * Geraniums- These bloom in late spring until fall and have pink, purple, blue, and white blooms. * Catmint- This aromatic foliage with spikes of lavender-blue flowers blooms from late spring to fall. * Bee Balm- vibrant in spiky tubular flowers of red, pink, purple, and white they attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds from mid-summer to fall. * Japanese Anemone- These elegant blooms are around from late summer to fall and come in shades of pink, white, and lavender. * Sedum-(or stonecrop) This hardy perennial blooms from late summer to fall in star-shaped flowers of pink, red, yellow, and white. * Yarrow- blooms from early summer to fall and comes in shades of yellow, pink, red, and white. * Phlox- blooms from mid-summer to fall in fragrant, star-shaped flowers in shades of pink, purple, white, and red. * Helenium(or sneezeweed)- blooms from mid-summer to fall in daisy-like flowers of yellow, orange, and red. * Penstemon(or beardtongue) it blooms from late spring to fall in tubular flowers of pink, purple, red, and white. * Butterfly Weed- blooms from late spring to early fall in shades of bright orange, yellow, and red flowers attracting butterflies. Here is an article I read on the subject that you can get more info on these flowers if you'd like:

Alyssums bloom from spring until the first hard frost. Irises bloom until summer and some will bloom again in late summer or fall if the growing conditions are right.

I appreciate perennials too . . . it's like the gift that keeps on giving (each year). I don't have much time for gardening - I do minimally and these perennials do what they do to perk up our yard.

They sure are. I used to garden but isn't much use around here. The earth is hard and not much to it.

@much2say .......Our dirt here is dry and I'm not sure what all it has in it. No nutrients of any kind though that is for sure. It is light grey in color instead of rich brown.

@celticeagle We have clay dirt around here . . . it has to be mixed with good soil or yah, it's just hard and dries too quickly. Since I don't do much to garden, I have my survival-of-the-fittest garden, literally!

I haven't heard of those in years. We had some in the yard when we lived in Pocatello.

I wish I had when I had a garden here in Boise. When I was married we had a vegetable garden, flowers and an herb garden. It was sure nice.

@celticeagle We paid mega bucks for a landscaping company to put in flowers that bloomed all year around. A couple bloomed; and then there aren't any that bloom later in the year. Not a happy camper.

I have had Echinacea for years. And lately I am planting bulbs They are more expensive but they are worth it. I have geraniums too but in this climate, you can make one out of a cutting for free.

They are good for colds. Free cuttings are always nice. Geraniums are hardy.

I am with you on loving perennials. I planted four varieties of perennial geraniums last year. Now they're starting to flower. One has many small pink blossoms. The rest are variations on blue-purple. Brown eyed Susan and daisies are going to bloom soon. I also have verbena there, too.
