Wearing crocs to work

I wrote about having to take Vince to Emergency a couple of nights ago. The waiting room was full of people but mention chest pain and you’re popped in a wheelchair and trundled off to a cubicle quick smart. They took me along too. The place was SO busy with nurses going back and forth, ambulance paramedics standing by trolleys with patients and lots of machines beeping away. What we did notice was the number of nurses and orderlies wearing crocs. I think they’re called the same in most countries. Some wore sneakers but many wore crocs. We both wear them at home and find them very comfortable. Vin’s are built up enough that he can wear them without his orthotics. I’d never thought about their suitability as work footwear. They’re not the most attractive of footwear but obviously hospital staff find them comfortable. Do you wear crocs? Do you find them comfortable? The photo is of my old crocs. I have pretty pink and blue ones now.

My family members who are in the medical field say that Crocs are allowed, but they may not have holes in them, they have to be enclosed in the front part. Oh, and they have to be worn with socks in the hospital. But most of the hospital people seem to wear Sketchers now.

Thanks for the information. They might be the case here as everyone had socks. Many or our older friends here vouch for Sketchers. I haven't tried them.

@JudyEv I love my Sketchers. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn!

I know they're very popular, but I have such weird feet that they really hurt me.

@JudyEv Other than the sandals I wear around the house, my Skechers are the most comfortable.

Oh, that's a shame. I think most people find them quite comfortable.

I guess they would be easy for them to clean if needed and comfortable. I have never worn them personally.

@JudyEv my mom puts her in the dishwasher ick i don’t know if she does it on a single load or not. I’m guessing not and that’s a big waste of water.

@shaggin I wash my sneakers in the washing machine sometimes. I guess that wastes a lot of water too. I may not do it any more. I'll just scrub them by hand perhaps.

I don't have a pair anymore, but I used to. My hubby loves his. He has both inside as well as outside crocs. They are an excellent choice of footwear as they are non slippery and offer great comfort. I think that it is great that the hospital staff wear them.

Nurses are not allowed to wear crocks here. They all wear sort of white "clogs", comfortable but they must be closed. I do not wear crocs, I do not find them comfortable, dangerous on the stairs and where the terrain is not even. Those are the shoes that our nurses wear.

@JudyEv Sneakers are not allowed, I have seen other white shoes that many doctors wear, but never sneakers.

I also like to wear Crocs. I bought a good one on sale last 2022 and it. still looks good until now. I got it half the price at about 40 dollars.

They can look a bit ugly but they are certainly comfortable. It's good you got yours at half price.

@JudyEv Yes, I don't wear them in summer unless it might be a bit wet or possibly threatening rain, or if I don't think my toenails are short enough...

They do not have any support for your feet so I do not wear them.

Vince's do have enough arch support that he doesn't need his orthotics. @jstory07 @LadyDuck

Even in the Philippines I see doctors and nurses wearing crocs. Besides being comfortable (try standing for hours in surgery), their slip- resistant soles help reduce accidents given that emergency room floors could be slippery when victims of bloody assaults are brought in. They don't look professional but serve a practical purpose. Aside from the medical profession, haven't seen one in an office setting.

I haven't seen them in store workers either but I also haven't taken any notice. I'm going to try to remember to see what other workers wear.

I am really into wearing Crocs. I recently got another pair, making it my second since they became popular. This new pair is even more comfortable than my first one, so I wear it every time I go out. Hehe

I have a pair. Have not tried my orthotics in them. I wore them shopping yesterday, in fact. For me, sneakers with orthotics is the required footwear for comfort.

If you need orthotics, then whatever footwear you have needs to accommodate them. Vince lasts about 10 minutes in bare feet or without orthotics.

I have always wondered if special sneakers would be better for nurses rather than the traditional sandals. Crocs look comfortable, but thanks but no thanks, I like my toes exposed...otherwise, there will be sweating. I think crocs make less noise, and make the person less prone to accidents at the workspace. What more, the legs may not tire as fast as with slightly heeled footwear. Whatever...hope your husband is doing better.

Some of the crocs have a bit of a built-up heel. Vince is doing well now thanks. I can see quite a difference in him.

I was really surprised to see them in the hospital. Standards are much more relaxed than they used to be when my friends were training to be nurses.

I don't find them comfortable. I find them too soft and that affects my balance and they don't feel like they have any support. Now, I've never owned a pair, so my opinion is just from trying them on a couple of times.

I'm sure they don't suit everyone. I've found them very comfortable except in the hot weather. Then they can get too hot.
