Day 150 – Confidence Numbers 21:21 Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, 22 “Let me pass through your land. We will not turn aside into fields or vineyards; we will not drink water from wells. We will go by the King’s Highway until we pass through your territory.” 23 Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. He gathered his people together and went out against Israel in the wilderness and came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. 24 Then Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the people of Ammon; for the border of the people of Ammon was fortified. 25 Israel took all these cities, and dwelt in the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in its villages. 26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and had taken his land from his hand as far as the Arnon. 27 Therefore, those who speak in proverbs say: “Come to Heshbon, let it be built; let the city of Sihon be repaired. 28 For fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; it consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the heights of the Arnon. 29 Woe to you, Moab! You have perished, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites. 30 But we have shot at them; Heshbon has perished as far as Dibon. Then we laid waste as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba.” 31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites. 32 Then Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took its villages and drove out the Amorites who were there. 33 They turned and went up to Bashan. Og king of Bashan went out against them, he and his people, to battle at Edrei. 34 Then JEHOVAH said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, with his people and his land; and you will do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.” 35 Israel defeated him, his sons, and his people, until there was no survivor left him; and they took possession of his land. God’s name: JEHOVAH Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Deliverer When you come up against a situation you dealt with before you have confidence you can go through it, but not alone. You know you need help and ask for it. Israel had just come through one battle with King Arad the Canaanite. They knew with JEHOVAH’S help, they could defeat Sihon, king of the Amorites and Og, king of Bashan. With JEHOVAH’S help, they not only conquered the kings, but they also dwelt in their cities. With Yeshuwa as your Savior and Lord, you have confidence you can defeat every temptation Satan uses to come against you to destroy your faith. You will not only defeat him, but you will also take back everything he stole from you in his attempt to destroy your faith. You will live in peace and safety because you trust Yeshuwa to take care of your enemy and lead the charge against him. Israel lived in peace and safety when they defeated Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan. They dwelt in their cities and had complete confidence in JEHOVAH to lead them. When you place your faith and trust in JEHOVAH and Yeshuwa, His Son, you will have the confidence to defeat Satan when he comes against you. Do you have the confidence necessary to come against Satan? Don’t let doubt and deceit steal your confidence. You will see your victory with JEHOVAH’S help. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for the confidence to come against Satan with Your help. I know I can’t go against him on my own, but with Your help, I can. Keep self-doubt and denial from me as I place my confidence and trust in You to defeat Satan. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 16 June 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

Time and time again, God is faithful and just. He will finish what He started in us. Agree, when we put our trust and confidence in Jesus, we can take back what the enemy (satan) have stolen from us. What the enemy meant for evil, God turned it for good.

God seemed to help Israel in its battles, and some opposition were all killed off to the last person in that kingdom. It is hard for me to fully understand how God can assist one army to defeat another, as I see war as an unnecessary thing really, and all it does is destroy life, not build it up. As God controls all life though, his decisions are in his hands, and he chooses to do things to show certain truths about himself to his chosen people, here, I guess.

War is hard to understand. God will always side with His people against their enemies. Even when the enemy seems too strong for them, God will always bring victory to His people. Have a blessed day.

@just4him Yes, God could presumably have protected them directly by placing a wall of fire around their camp, to stop others from coming near them, but he chose to allow them to engage in war, perhaps so that they learnt how to defend themselves, but still with his help too.
