Pricing Mexican Chihuahuas

I went online yesterday, just out of curiosity. My goal was to get a ballpark price, for a Mexican Chihuahua. I was shocked by these findings! Some of those puppies are selling for $4,000! While others are almost given away(in comparison) at $400-$600. It's hard for me to imagine that a puppy could be that pricey! I also believe that the location makes a difference, also. For example: In Southern California a $4,000 price tag is considered a fairly reasonable price. In Michigan, that price would probably be too high. Not to mention, I'd have to drive a long distance(or fly), just to look at a litter of pups. I think not Photo: Borrowed from Pixabay

Are you going to buy one? Here there is a great difference between dogs that have pedigree and dogs that just don´t have the "papers". Luna costed about 1/10 of the price of the less beautiful German Shepherd that can be shown and can get prices. But Luna is a beaut. If she was "Royal" she´d win them all.

We are only renting at this time, I can't buy a dog. Jay is allergic to animals.

To each his own, but I'm not really keen on chichiuas. The only ones I've met have been snappy and not very nice.

@kobesbuddy I know any of the poodle crosses here are very expensive - labradoodle, cavoodle, etc.

The reason I was looking, I was curious about how much tiny dogs cost.

I agree with @LouAvul if you do decided to get another dog do adopt, There are so many that need the love, Spending such money is not a good idea, I would understand in you were planning on buying something like a gold bar but not a cute doggy

You are right! And a cute doggy will live just as long, as a free dog from the Animal Shelter

I am surprised that the price of purchasing a Chihuahua is very high compared to buying a pure breed dog like a Black Labrador or German Shepherd.

@kobesbuddy That is true since pure breed dogs are very expensive.

That is a bit much. I can see where it would depend on the area.

Go to an animal shelter you might find one. Those dogs and cats need a good home to.

And every fur friend I've ever owned was free. Every one gave me some good memories, to cherish.

Adopting is an option. I've seen several chihuahuas at the shelter. Also, I would go through the national organization to find reputable breeders before purchasing one. Good luck if you decide to pursue it. Have a good day.

@kobesbuddy Yes, I keep seeing the shelter listings each day in the newspaper; and I want to go take a look....but I know we don't want to make a commitment to another dog at our ages.

I would never pay $4,000 for a Chihuahua, I can literally get a car cheaper than that, but for those willing to pay it, I say cool beans for them, and I hope they have fun with it.

I compare this to insanity, paying too much for a 'cute face' with papers!
