6/26/24 - Update on My Husband

I got a phone call yesterday that came up on the Caller ID as the "US Govt." I thought, "Ha, ha. Now the scammers are posing as the Government." However, the person started to leave a message and said she was with Medicare Appeals. I picked up the phone. They have received the Appeal and wanted to set up a date for the Judge to call me. I must take each point brought up on the refusal letter and make my case for my husband to continue getting paid Physical Therapy. I am a nervous wreck. This is so important. I will have to make a list of points and dates about what has happened since the cutoff date of May 11 which is when we went on "self pay". She also suggested that having someone from PT testify would be a very good idea. So my husband will tell the head of PT to call me.
He was able to stand up (with much difficulty) from his wheelchair yesterday which is a first. He also did steps again. These are two things that he was unable to do on May 11 and are points that I must bring up and justify.
My husband still doesn't have a remote. I keep asking him if he would like me to call the Social Worker; but he keeps saying "No".
Would appreciate any prayers, support or thoughts you can send our way!!!

Is the remote for the TV his roommate keeps at maximum volume?

@BarBaraPrz Yup. Except my husband still doesn't have a remote. I told him I would call the social worker; but he said no. Oh well.

That sounds incredibly stressful, but you're handling it with such determination and care for your husband's well-being. It's a lot to manage, but focusing on those points and dates will definitely help build your case.

@jstory07 Yes, I want to make a point that my husband used to have muscular thighs and arms. Now he has skin hanging on bones. He must make muscles all over again.

I think I can call the US Department of Health & Human Services if I have any questions. The lady that called left me her number.

I am sure you will do fine at the conversation with the judge. The PT testifier thing would be great. It's not always easy, but we do advocate for our loved ones, don't we? You are doing the best you can to get this resolved.

I am sure you get really tired of making phone calls. I’ve walked that walk and it’s very frustrating!

I am sorry you're having such a hard time. Just be thankful, self-pay or not, they are willing to keep him at all. In-patient rehab is often a short stent.

That's very encouraging that your husband's taking steps and able to stand up from his wheelchair.
I know that phone call will be very important, but sounds like you'll have all your notes and will be well prepared. I'll pray that it goes well and God gives you wisdom and knowledge.

I'm glad the government called to set up an appointment for your appeal hearing. I hope all goes well.
I'm so glad your husband could stand up from his wheelchair and did steps again. He's improving. That will go well with the appeal.

Making a list is a good idea Linda. It will help keep you focused when you have to the to the judge. Looks like things are progressing and fingers crossed that the appeal goes through.
That's good news that your hubby was able to get up and hopefully it will get a bit easier for him the more he does it.
That whole remote thing is ridiculous.
Always sending prayers and good thoughts
