What I did at art class on Thursday.

My monochrome pear.

I'm only writing about this now because I haven't really had time to do it before. On Thursday I went to art class again. My taxi was late! He came at almost 1:35pm and I was thinking of phoning them up to see where he was! But he did come eventually, thank goodness! (And they've put the prices up now from £7.80 to £8.80!) It was our first week of acrylics this week. It should have been last week but we had a day off because of the election. I told the tutor about them cancelling ALL the taxis rather than just the ones for 4th July! So we were doing pears in acrylics this week. (See above.) We were given a sheet of acrylic paper divided up into 4 squares. Then we were given a picture of a pear that fit into the squares. We were given some carbon paper with which to transfer the picture of the pear into each of the squares. It was basically practising colour schemes using the colour wheel this week. The first pear (the one above) we did in monochrome. That's just different shades of the same colour. We were using violet as our base colour. From that we tinted it using white, or darkened it using grey (rather than black.) We noted on our reference picture where the darkest areas were and where the lightest areas were and painted them in with the colour tints as necessary. I think the first pear I did was the best - it was all downhill from there! I made a right royal mess on my paper when I was trying to wipe a palette knife clean with some kitchen paper! The tutor said it didn't really matter as with acrylics you can easily paint over it and it won't show! When we came to do the second pear I videod the tutor talking about it for 2 reasons. 1) So I could go back to it later and refresh my memory about what she said, and 2) So that I could put it up on my YouTube channel! I videod her talking about pears 3 and 4 aswell, except half the time the camera was pointing down at my paper! The second pear was done in analogous colours. These are colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel, and they harmonise together nicely. We still concentrated on the violet, and the two colours that are next to it on the colour wheel. These are red violet and blue violet. So we did the same as with the first pear, but with these 3 colours. We mixed red with violet to make red violet, then we mixed blue with violet to make blue violet. Then we tinted these with white and darkened them with grey as we needed. Then we painted the pear with the darker colours where they needed to be, and the lighter colours where they needed to be. And the background started darker at the top and got lighter at the bottom. The third pear was done in complementary colours. These are colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel. We still choose the violet, and the complementary to violet is yellow, so we used just these two colours in their various shades for the third pear. The fourth pear was done in a split complementary colour scheme. Split complementary is one colour on one side of the colour wheel, and then the two colours either side of its complementary. So we had yellow, and as its complementary is violet, its split complementary is red violet and blue violet. So we used those colours for the final pear. I rushed the final pear a bit because I wanted to finish it before the end of the art class! But when it came time to go home it still wasn't completely dry, so I took another piece of the acrylic paper that no-one had used and I put the back of it over my painting so that the paint wouldn't get all over my bag and everything. I knew paint would get onto the back of the paper, but that was fine as long as it didn't get all over my bag and what not. When I got home I showed my Mum what I'd done, I had my dinner and watched some telly. I hope that you lot have had a nice day, and I hope you have a great night.

I am glad you found a way to bring home your artwork without getting paint over your bag. This is a nice picture.

Yes, I'm glad I could do that. Thank you very much. It's only one of four on the same sheet, but I think this one was the best.
