7/18/24 - Update On My Husband

Yesterday was the Appeal Hearing with the judge. It went fairly well except that I realized too late that all she was only interested in what services my husband was getting from the Skilled Nursing Facility. I should have mentioned that they dispensed medications and took his blood pressure. I need to send his records from May 11 to the present to the team that handled his case. On the suggestion of one of the team members, I will include a list of what the skilled nurses do for my husband. The judge may or may not accept this information at this late date. The insurance company wants to make a point that my husband doesn't need skilled nursing and should be in long term care. I disagree.
Physical therapy went OK except that the therapists were too busy to do steps with my husband. Maybe today. My husband said that he put himself to bed by himself yesterday with no one there. This is great news.
Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts.

@LindaOHio Positive thinking. Just have positive thinking. How you feel reflects in how you react or respond—and if they see it...

Concerning that he put himself in bed, I guess I think that as it hasn't been that long since he tried to get up and you said he collapsed on his bed. I just don't want him to go backwards! I am sure you caution him constantly about being careful!
Are they trying to decide on yes or no by the end of the month, is that it? I hope you win, you've complied and gathered information, etc. and it looks like you have to get a bit more for them. Does the resident doctor of the facility have to weigh in as well? I don't know how this all works, forgive me if my questions are not the right ones!

No, the doctor is not involved. The judge will rule after July 29. I don't know how long it will take. I hope our housekeeper can pick up the records and send them from the post office.

@MarieCoyle I have to sign a request before the records can be released; so I will have to fit that into next week somehow.

With the fact he hasn't made the progress he should've in the time he's been there, I can see why insurance wants to consider long term care. Do more research on what long term care could mean for you and your husband before completely dismissing it.

Long term care costs the same; but it is not covered by insurance. We are still hoping that the judge will rule in our favor and cover his residence from May 11 to the present.

From what I could gather from what the judge asked for, I doubt we will win.

It would still cost the same; but insurance would definitely not cover it.

It's fingers crossed time now I guess. Along with the BP log you might want to to mention that he can now get in bed by himself. Is something.I wonder if the insurance company has access to info you don't have?
