Day 191 – Integrity Deuteronomy 25:1 “If a dispute arises between men, and they come to court, so that the judges may judge them, and they justify the righteous and condemn the wicked, 2 then it will happen, if the wicked man deserves a beating, the judge will cause him to lie down and beat him in his presence, according to his guilt, with a certain number of blows. 3 Forty blows he may give him and no more, lest he should exceed this and beat him with many blows above these and humiliate your brother in your sight. 4 “You will not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain. 5 “If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the widow of the dead man will not marry a stranger outside the family; her husband’s brother will go in to her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her. 6 It will happen that the firstborn son which she bears will succeed to the name of his dead brother, so that his name may not disappear out of Israel. 7 However, if the man does not want to take his brother’s wife, then let his brother’s wife go to the gate to the elders, and say, ‘My husband’s brother refuses to raise up a name to his brother in Israel; he will not perform the duty of my husband’s brother.’ 8 Then the elders of his city will call him and speak to him. If he stands firm and says, ‘I do not want to take her,’ 9 then his brother’s wife will come to him in the presence of the elders, remove his sandal from his foot, spit in his face, and answer and say, ‘So it will happen to the man who will not build up his brother’s house.’ 10 You will call his name in Israel, ‘The house of him who had his sandal removed.’ 11 “If two men fight together, and the wife of one comes near to rescue her husband from the hand of the one attacking him and puts out her hand and seizes him by the genitals, 12 then you will cut off her hand; your eye will not pity her. 13 “You will not have in your bag differing weights, a heavy and a light. 14 You will not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small. 15 You will have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, so that your days may be lengthened in the land which JEHOVAH your Elohiym gives you. 16 For everyone who does such things, who behaves unrighteously, are an abomination to JEHOVAH your Elohiym. 17 “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, 18 how he met you on the way and attacked your rear ranks, every straggler at your rear, when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore, it will happen, when JEHOVAH your Elohiym gives you rest from your enemies, in the land which JEHOVAH your Elohiym gives you to possess as an inheritance, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You will not forget. God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Supreme God Yeshuwa – Jesus Iesous – Jesus Christos – Anointed One, Messiah Theos – Supreme Divinity God’s Character: Righteous Holy Just Kinsman Redeemer What do people look for in a person? They look for people of integrity, honest people. They do not want to associate with dishonest people with questionable character. Moses told Israel what JEHOVAH expected of them in everything they did. He wanted them to act with integrity in every area of their lives. If not, then they punished them. When you read and study Scripture, you will see how the laws JEHOVAH gave His people prepared the way for their Messiah. When the high priest handed Yeshuwa to Pilate for judgment and execution, Pilate had Him flogged before he gave the high priest what they wanted, Yeshuwa’s crucifixion. Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely, He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgressions of My people, He was stricken. 9 They made His grave with the wicked—but with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was deceit in His mouth. 10 Yet it pleased JEHOVAH to bruise Him; He put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He will see His seed, He will prolong His days, and the pleasure of JEHOVAH will prosper in His hand. Matthew 26:63 Iesous kept silent. The high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living Theos: Tell us if You are the Christos, the Son of Theos!” 64 Iesous said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have for witnesses? Look, now you heard His blasphemy! 66 What do you think?” They answered and said, “He deserves death.” 67 Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, Christos! Who struck You?” Without Yeshuwa’s sacrifice on the cross, He could not redeem you. He became your Kinsman Redeemer through the will of His Father. In JEHOVAH’S plan for redemption, you also find an account in Scripture of an example of Yeshuwa as your Kinsman Redeemer in the story of Ruth. Ruth 3:1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, will I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you? 2 Now Boaz, whose young women you were with, is he not our relative? In fact, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. 3 Therefore, wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 Then it will happen, when he lies down, that you will notice the place where he lies; and you will go in, uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what you should do.” 5 She said to her, “All that you say to me I will do.” 6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did according to all that her mother-in-law instructed her. 7 After Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was cheerful, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain; and she came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. 8 Now it happened at midnight that the man was startled, and turned himself; and there, a woman was lying at his feet. 9 He said, “Who are you?” She answered, “I am Ruth, your maidservant. Take your maidservant under your wing, for you are a close relative.” 10 Then he said, “Blessed are you of JEHOVAH, my daughter! For you have shown more kindness at the end than at the beginning, in that you did not go after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 Now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you everything you request, for the people of my town know you are a virtuous woman. 12 Now it is true I am a close relative; however, there is a relative closer than I. 13 Stay this night, and in the morning, it will be that if he will perform the duty of a close relative for you—good; let him do it. However, if he does not want to perform the duty for you, then I will perform the duty for you, as JEHOVAH lives! Lie down until morning.” Ruth 4:1 Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. Boaz said, “Come aside, friend, sit down here.” He came aside and sat down. 2 He took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” They sat down. 3 Then he said to the close relative, “Naomi, who has come back from the country of Moab, sold the piece of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech. 4 I thought to inform you, saying, ‘Buy it back in the presence of the inhabitants and the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; for there is only you to redeem it, and I am next after you.’” And he said, “I will redeem it.” 5 Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance.” 6 The close relative said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it.” 7 Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel. 8 Therefore, the close relative said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” He took off his sandal. Ruth 4:13 Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, JEHOVAH gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14 Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be JEHOVAH, who has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel! 15 May he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.” 16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her bosom and became a nurse to him. 17 Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “There is a son born to Naomi.” They called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. You know David became a king in Israel and the ancestor of Yeshuwa, also known as the Son of David. Before Yeshuwa’s crucifixion, He went to the temple and saw the moneychangers and overthrew the tables. Matthew 21:12 Then Iesous went into the temple of Theos and drove out everyone who bought and sold in the temple and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a 'den of thieves.’” Iesous overthrew the tables of the money changers because they used differing weights and measures when they exchanged money with the people. They polluted the temple and caused it to become a den of thieves instead of what JEHOVAH intended for His house, a house of prayer. Elohiym expects you to live a life of integrity before Him in everything you do. You are not to live as the world lives, but to live righteously and soberly before Him. Titus 2:11 For the grace of Theos that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great Theos and Savior Iesous Christos, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Let’s pray: Father, help me to live a life of integrity before You in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 27 July 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

That is a pretty severe punishment for a woman coming to the aid of her husband to help him against an opponent, but I guess it shows that God wanted them to be all moral people, and not commit inadvertent sins, acts of ungodliness, even if the sin appeared to be ok, for the occasion, where it might seem to be warranted.

I thought it was severe too, but I'm sure it kept the women from doing something foolish. Have a blessed day.
