Day 201 – Preparation
Joshua 1:1 After the death of Moses the servant of JEHOVAH, it happened that JEHOVAH spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying, 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, the entire land of the Hittites, to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, will be your territory. 5 No man will stand before you for your entire life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, for to these people you will divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and courageous, so that you may observe to do according to the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law will not depart from your mouth, but you will meditate in it day and night, so that you may observe to do according to everything written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for JEHOVAH your Elohiym is with you wherever you go.”
10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 “Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over Jordan, to go in to possess the land which JEHOVAH your Elohiym gives you to possess.’”
12 To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh Joshua spoke, saying, 13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of JEHOVAH commanded you, saying, ‘JEHOVAH your Elohiym gave you rest and gave you this land.’ 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock will remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. However, you will pass before your brethren armed, every mighty man of valor, and help them, 15 until JEHOVAH gives your brethren rest, as He gave you, and they also have taken possession of the land which JEHOVAH your Elohiym gives them. Then you will return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moses JEHOVAH’S servant gave you on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrise.”
16 They answered Joshua, saying, “Everything you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17 Just as we heeded Moses in everything, so we will heed you. Only JEHOVAH your Elohiym be with you, as He was with Moses. 18 Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in everything you command him, will die. Only be strong and of good courage.”
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Theos – Supreme Divinity
Kurios – Supreme Authority
God’s character:
Instructor
Leader
How many times have you moved? Each time is an adventure, a new beginning. You prepared for your move. Everything is ready. The movers are on your doorstep to take your belongings to your new home. What will you find? What new things will encounter?
JEHOVAH told Joshua the time had come to take the children of Israel across the Jordan to inhabit the land He promised them. They waited forty years to take possession of the land. Elohiym told him to meditate on the Book of the Law night and day. When he did so, he would prosper. He told him to be courageous and not be afraid because he would lead them and give them every place their feet go.
Joshua spoke to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, reminding them of their promise to go armed before the children of Israel and help them take possession of the land. They in turn vowed to do everything they promised Moses and obey everything he told them on penalty of death.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you prepared for your moving day, the day when you would change this mortal life for eternity with Yeshuwa in heaven.
Joshua told the people to prepare provisions and get ready to enter the land. What are you doing to prepare yourself for eternal life with Yeshuwa in heaven?
JEHOVAH told Joshua he was to read and meditate on the Book of the Law, day and night. Do you read your Bible? Do you study it? Do you pray and seek His face? Or are you a Christian in title only and not in fact because you don’t read and study JEHOVAH’S Word? Your Bible remains unopened. Your Bible app remains unread. It has been a long time since you went to church. Your friends and neighbors don’t know you’re a Christian because you follow the ways of the world. JEHOVAH told Joshua to read and study, meditate on the Book of the Law, day and night. You cannot take possession of what JEHOVAH has for you if you don’t read and study His Word.
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to Theos, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
JEHOVAH does not approve of Christians who don’t read and study His Word.
In the parable of the wise and foolish virgins, Yeshuwa told the people they needed to prepare for the day when the bridegroom returned. However, they didn’t keep their lamps lit. When He arrived, He told them He didn’t know them.
Matthew 25:1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom was delayed, they slumbered and slept. 6 At midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7 Then those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 While they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Kurios, Kurios, open to us!’ 12 He answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
You don’t want Yeshuwa to say to you that He doesn’t know you. Start today to read and study His Word. Spend time with other believers around JEHOVAH’S Word. When you do your friends and neighbors will know you are a Christian because you act like one.
Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word fill my mind and heart. Help me to read and understand Your Word so it will always be ready on my lips when temptation comes my way. Let me stand prepared to enter the Promised Land and see You face to face when You call me home. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

That was some great encouragement that God gave to Joshua.
I wonder about that parable about the wise and foolish virgins. I wonder why, earlier in the day, the wise ones, couldn't have educated the foolish ones, and told them to go, and get more oil, earlier.
The fact that they slumbered and slept, is relevant here too though, I think, as they perhaps would not have even listened to an earlier warning either, as their nature was made up of indolence, and laziness, it seems.

Reflecting on the names of God fills us with awe and reverence. Each name reveals a unique aspect of His character and love for us. From Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, to El Shaddai, the Almighty, we see His endless power and care. May these names remind us daily of His presence and faithfulness. Trust in His name, for He is with you always.
