Day 202 – Protection Joshua 2:1 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” They went and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab and lodged there. 2 It was told the king of Jericho, saying, “Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country.” 3 The king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who came to you, who entered your house, for they came to search out the country.” 4 Then the woman took the two men and hid them. She said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. 5 It happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went, I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them.” 6 (However, she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.) 7 Then the men pursued them by the road to the Jordan, to the fords. As soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate. 8 Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, 9 and said to the men, “I know that JEHOVAH gave you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we heard how JEHOVAH dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you destroyed. 11 As soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for JEHOVAH your Elohiym, He is Elohiym in heaven above and on earth beneath. 12 Now, therefore, I beg you, swear to me by JEHOVAH, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, 13 and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and everyone they have, and deliver our lives from death.” 14 So the men answered her, “Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. It will happen, when JEHOVAH gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.” 15 Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall; she dwelt on the wall. 16 She said to them, “Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide there for three days, until the pursuers return. Afterward you may go your way.” 17 So the men said to her, “We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you made us swear, 18 unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and your father’s household to your own home. 19 It will happen that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his own head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on him. 20 If you tell this business of ours, then we will be free from your oath which you made us swear.” 21 Then she said, “According to your words, so be it.” She sent them away, and they departed. She bound the scarlet cord in the window. 22 They departed and went to the mountain and stayed there three days until the pursuers returned. The pursuers sought them along the way but did not find them. 23 So the two men returned, descended from the mountain, and crossed over; and they came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him everything that had befallen them. 24 They said to Joshua, “Truly JEHOVAH has delivered the land into our hands, for indeed the inhabitants of the country are fainthearted because of us.” God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Supreme God Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Protector In times of war, people seek out the enemy’s plans and learn about their strength for the battle. When they learn as much as they can they plan a strategic strike against them. Joshua sent spies into Jericho to learn about the people. They found a woman who hid them and told them what they wanted to know. The king of Jericho learned the spies had come to her and wanted her to turn them over to him. However, she lied to him and told the king they left. The spies made an agreement with her to save her and her household when they came to conquer the city. They told her to tie the scarlet cord in the window so they would know she kept her word when they returned to take the city. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you made an enemy of Satan who seeks to destroy you. However, when you know Satan’s plans, you can defeat him and show him how powerless he is against you because Yeshuwa’s blood covers you. Yeshuwa is the scarlet cord that brought salvation to Rahab’s household. He gives you salvation too when you trust Him to protect you from Satan and his plans against you. Let the scarlet cord, Yeshuwa’s blood cover you and protect you from Satan’s plans against you. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your protection against Satan and his schemes against me. Thank you for reminding me that I am covered in the blood of Your Son, and nothing Satan plans will happen in my life. When doubt and fear rise in me, remind me that I am Your child, and You have me covered. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 7 August 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

It is comforting to know that God always acts for us to thwart Satan's plans made against us, and God will often perform a miracle to help us to achieve his plans for him too, as he did with the Israelites here, drying up the waters of the Jordon for them to cross over it on dry land.

I like reading these verses about God's protection: Psalm 91 vs 5 to 7 " Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day. Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee."
