My Daughter Rescued a Turtle

There was a turtle that was in a bad situation. Traffic was coming, so my daughter did a rescue mission. The turtle could have been run over by a vehicle. So, Mari Lyn carried it off the highway and placed it in the grass. Was the turtle grateful? Nope, it wasn't happy about this interference! Oh well, now it can wander off and do anything it pleases "Stay off the road, turtle!" Photo: Taken by my daughter

The last one I seen in the road was on its own. It was a snapper.

That was sweet. I remember seeing a man do the same thing for a turtle years ago on a fairly busy road. I thought it was such a kind thing to do, and I’m glad to hear that your daughter showed such kindness herself.

@AmbiePam The traffic was pretty busy that day. I remember, the turtle was near the center-line.

@kobesbuddy I don't know this at all. I just thought turtles move slowly and therefore it won't be harmful.

No, it wasn't heavy but, it could have been a snapper. Snapping turtles can bite a person's hand off!

I know your daughter works in a medicine field. And that's why she has a soft corner towards looking at all living beings - be it humans or animals. And I think this mentality of hers, forced herself to rescue the turtle that was wondering on the roads. But just for a second do imagine it being run over by a vehicle. Do you still think it might have got injured? I doubt, because the shell is so hard that it can survive such hits quite easily. I have just heard these things about turtles. Though I am not sure how hard its shell is and how much impact it can bear upon itself. But anyhow Mari Lyn did quite and exceptional job and she must get congratulations for this wonderful efforts shown. But I am not sure why the turtle wasn't happy with this act? Are you sure the total wasn't happy and grateful?

@kobesbuddy To be honest, I've never seen or heard that turtles were "crushed" and ran over by vehicles, so much so that the guts were splattered around on the roads. Really, a turtle's life can end so miserably? That's really really sad to know that. But I could imagine the shell still being in place. So the shell can survive even heavy vehicles being run over. But what I couldn't imagine is, even if vehicles run over the turtles, how can they get injured from the inside? Yes, their tummies can't take the weight, and it's understandable. But when it goes inside, it's covered and protected thanks to its shell. Then still how does this happen? I'm not able to understand this.

I've seen turtles crushed on the road, by a vehicle that ran over it. The guts were splattered on the road, the shell was still in place. Its stomach can't take the weight of a car or truck. Turtles withdraw inside the shell, when danger is perceived. People are viewed as a danger, by the turtle. @abhi_bangal

She loves all animals and takes time to rescue them at times. Her feral cat is hiding behind the curtain, can you see his ears? @jstory07

It is a pretty large turtle that she saved, and it doesn't look like a snapper, of course she probably wouldn't have attempted to pick up one of those.

Mari Lyn lives in the country, so they probably see a lot of turtles. I wouldn't know one from the other, snappers are aggressive!

@kobesbuddy Snappers have a jagged line that stands upright on their shell running from back to front and they can have it on their tail and head also. They look so mean.

@Juliaacv OH yes, you're right! They have a sharp hump that follows the middle of their shell.

I hate to see wild animals in distress or dangerous situations. One time, I chased a fawn off the road. A truck was coming and the driver wasn't slowing down one bit! I stood between the fawn and the approaching truck, with both arms spread above my head, daring him to run into me! He finally did stop:(

Most wild animals don't like to be rescued! They're funny that way.

Those creatures sometimes don't experience fear, until it's too late!
