Talking About Reddit

Back in 2005 the site was created. I didn't do more than use it to post links to the various articles I wrote on paying sites. And there used to be A LOT of paying sites.
As the sites went down I sort of forgot about Reddit. Then I read some article, and wandered over.
Reddit has a lot of subreddits, different topics, etc. No limit how much or little you write. When Musk bought Twitter, Reddit got an inrush.
Now it's not a bad social network.. it's just full of the usual know it all know nothings.
I went to the Jamaica subreddit and it was easy to see there was an inrush of non-yardies pretending to be Jamaicans and posting rubbish. Totally unaware of what real life is here.
The thing that set me off is that when I post something real, I get attacked by people who don't know anything at all whatsoever about the country, the culture or the people.
Hopefully, my experience is unique.

That's the risk when it comes to posting on social media. People are entitled to voice their opinion. And, while it's not right to attack someone, it's just as wrong to assume that that person doesn't know what they're talking about. For example, A Jamakain in the U.S. is going to differ from someone still living in Jamaka. Perhaps they are sharing their point of view of the country and culture as it is for them. Hell, your next door neighbor could have a different opinion of the lifestyle and country then you do, and may not like how you present the country on social media and you'd never really know unless you actually saw them typing and saw their username.

nope. Let me see if I can break it down.. you claim to live in Florida. Do you know who your Govenor is? Do you know what normal weather is? Do you know the names of popular restaurants in Daytona Beach?
So I post that the Govenor is Walt Green, and it's snowing, and ... you get the point?

@jaylar Well, I do. However, I'm not going to say that's totally wrong. We could've had a Govonor named Walt Green, or at least someone who ran with a simular name. It HAS snowed in Florida. See where I'm coming from here? Snow is rare, but we've had winters where every state with the exception of Hawaii had snow. It snows pretty regurally in the panhandle, after all. Now if it was 90 (like it has been) and someone claimed to see snow in Florida, then I'd question them and ask them to explain.
It still a point, that it's easy to complain about others, but when you don't try to see their point of view, you're just as bad as they are.
Now, on another note. Yes, I live in Daytona Beach, but I don't know everything about it. Why? Because I don't go out that often. I don't know what'd be considered popular, when I can barely afford fast food as a treat. Mty husband, George, used to drive for Pizza hut, knew the city pretty well, and still another local had to give him directions to the Supper club because we'd never been there before. So you can live somewhere you're entire life and not know everything about it. Because we have different perspectives and lifestyles despite living in the same city.

@kaylachan I did a bad kind of comparison. Let me try again. I was at the One Love Concert. I was there. You can't tell me what happened. Recently, Haitians came to the Cove on a boat. I saw it. You can't tell me I didn't. And I saw the Coast Guard spray the air and put the boat on fire. I saw it. I can go to Court and give evidence.
So when I write something like that and someone disputes... I get cheesed

@RebeccasFarm it reminds me of the day when a bunch of schoolers surged into a BBS and turned a decent site into a toilet. Totally unexpected

I have been posting and writing online for over ten years. I use social media sites to get people to see what I have posted. Whether they like or don't like what I post is entirely up to them, I am also part of Reditt but not overly familiar with the site and I don't know if I will stay on the site, I have not shared anything to this site. The sites I share to are Facebook, X, Linkedin, Tumblr, and Pinterest depending on what the topic of what I have published is. I have not found any problems with this but then again I am not saying that everything I share to social media sites gets even looked at. That is my story and I wish the best to you if you continue to post to Reditt.

@jaylar if that is the case and you know your are right best not to respond at time it only encourages such people who think they know better than anyone,
