Remember the Psychic Network from the 90s? Lifetime released a movie and follow-up doc in August about Miss Cleo who was the spokesperson for the hotline for a period of time. She was employed by the two hotline owners to do an ad for it since her Miss Cleo persona had gone over so well. She was paid $1000 for her work and the ad brought in millions. Her persona was that of a Jamaican shaman. Her story is really something and one of the people who knew her said she had a very bad childhood and may have had several personalities besides the Miss Cleo one she used on the Psychic network. It was a pretty interesting story about the woman. My daughter called the Psychic hotline once and charged up over $500 on our phone bill.

I hadn't either until I saw this. The chats that my daughter had with the psychic hotline were back in the 90s.
