It's not like my name is all that common. Although, I guess Bauer is not all that uncommon. I mean, consider the ubiquitousness of Bauer in the business world. There's J. Bauer Trucking. There's Bauer Tools, Bauer Skates, Bauer Key, Bauer Tire and Bauer Ladder just to name a few. And of course, who doesn't know Eddie Bauer? "Checking in for Bauer," I told the hotel staff as we checked in at the La Quinta in Lake Mary, Florida. "B-A-U-E-R." I always spell it out because there is a British version of my German name, which is Bower. At first it seemed like he could not find our reservation. "What's the name again?" he asked. I told him again and spelled it out again. "Oh yes. Here you are. Two double beds?" My eyes blinked. "No. We had a suite with a king bed." "Mike?" "No, Jim. But it is probably under James." "Ah yes. It seems we have two Bauers here tonight." What are the odds?
