So Discouraged

I feel really discouraged. I want to start my writing back up but it is one big money blast online.
All the writing contests charge fees to enter. A publisher I hoped to write for wants $1000 to put my story in an anthology and who knows how much more to buy the book. I saw the freelance sites and all the jobs demand higher skills than I have.
I wonder if I should just give up. This morning, my bank here went but sunk this afternoon.
Did you ever get discouraged with your chosen field? Did you ever want to throw it all intothe wind and give up??

@LovesEverybody Vanity presses are presses that publish garbage and get people who submitted the garbage to buy "anthologies" for $100 or more. I could submit something like (I'm making this up):
Her eyes were glacial pools
Her lips were a blooming rose
I am sure there are many fools
Who would not love her head to toes.
Total garbage. If I submitted it to Poetry.com (if they still exist), they would say my poem was selected for (whatever) and then publish it and try to sell me an "anthology" with my Really Bad Poem in it.
I think I know someone who actually fell for that scam.

All of the time. I've found walking a way and taking time to regroup helps. Doing online searches for online writing options, help as well. Also writing for free and posting on sites like fiction press (or if you're into it) fan fiction, will give you free platforms to improve your skills, too.

@akalinus Yes. Fan fiction is fiction written about pre-existing media. Weather it be your take on your favorite book, your own stories using your favorite characters from movies, television etc. People write their own stories off books, comics, movies and so on.

@kaylachan Doess it pay anything? Or is it just for fun? I will try walking. Since I was injured, I am scared of walking, scared I will fall again.

I am happy with the way things are progressing for me, I get by each month and I enjoy the writing I do. I love writing for Vocal Media and getting myself known to others. I don't get a pay out too often but I like being on the site. I do my blogging and enjoy seeing people follow my blog, No money but the feeling is good they like what I post, I work at my survey sites and get some additional money each month plus gift cards. Just ordered from Amazon and the order would have been $59 but due to the gift cards i had came to $29 now my cats get another 22 lbs of dry food, me an electric water kettle and for fun the second season DVD of LA Law. I used to attempt getting writing jobs but pretty soon I saw that it was not working any more and gave that up,

@RasmaSandra I pay that much for an anti-virus on my phone. I don't know if I could make anything for using it. Do you make money there?

I am disappointed that a few writing sites that did pay writers for blogging like All voices and one from Eastern Europe either were bought out by another company or the company went bankrupt. I have learned to be happy writing fan fictions on Archive Of Our Own for free right now.

@Deepizzaguy Thanks for telling me. You seem to know about sites that I don't. Let me know if you have any tips.

I understand your problem.Yes;I had felt discouraged and even depressed when I was looking for a job.I had no money.I got discouraged. My parents never let me know that they had any problems. They kept encouraging me.And finally the day came when I got a job in a local company. And now I have my own business.

If that's your passion keep on going, because better result comes after great discouragement. pray and ask for favor and instructions from God.
Never give up because you don't know unless you tried. I am actually having the same dilemma, but what made me see is that I don't need money for everything, all I need to ask is favor and opportunity, plus a good idea. So when my bank sunk, I got a free access to one of my needed tool, and got a cheaper price for one of the manuals that I need. Just keep on praying and keep on looking... in my case the more I involve God and ask Him if this is the right path to take, the more I got redirected, and the more I found favors. Though I am not yet that good yet in what I am doing, I just got a few free tools and cheaper manuals and good advices in youtube, but it helps.

I would be careful of people asking for money to put your writing in a book. There are several sites that don't require a resume, etc. Give me some time; and I will see if I can find my notes on them. I joined a couple but never wrote for them. Good luck! Have a good day.
