Are we really that old?

The photo has nothing to do with the text. I like the dead bits poking out the top of the tree. Vince had an operation last Friday and has been on very strong pain-killers. As is so often the case, this has caused constipation and most attention yesterday was focussed on whether he had ‘moved his bowels’ – or not. You may prefer not to read any further. He told two nurses who would be in their late 30s/early 40s a little saying from years back: Here I sit broken-hearted Paid a penny and only farted The nurses were not Australian but had been here for many years. One had several degrees but had given up qualifying as a doctor to raise her family. Neither had ever heard of a penny so consequently had never heard of a time when you might have had to pay a penny to use a public lavatory. So Vince had to explain it all to them. He might come home today but almost definitely tomorrow.

I have always been prone to constipation but when I was on chemotherapy it was terrible. Only two things really helped. One was tender corn salad. And the other were some oatmeal cookies that Leticia made adding wheat bran to the recipe.

Thanks very much for those tips. I don't think he'll need chemo but the pain-killers create constipation too. What do you mean by 'tender corn' please? I can easily make him the cookies.

@JudyEv Yeah, I can understand that. When George was in the hospital and I couldn't see him, it was almost deafning.

It will be good to have him home again. It's very quiet without him here.

At least he has his sense humor. He can't feel too bad.Is he going to have to be on oxygen for awhile? Will he be able to manage without it eventually? That tree is wild.

@snowy22315 He is home now and just had a two-hour nap. He is a bit tired and weak but should only get better from now on.

He was on oxygen early on but now they say he has a collapsed lung. The physios have been working him really hard. Just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings.

There are all sorts of saying which are second nature to us but which they've never heard of.

I hope Vince is on the mend sooner than later. Poor fella. One of the warnings about knee surgery has been to eat well cause the pain meds could cause issues like Vince has had.

Pain meds are notorious for causing constipation.

When they gave me more than unusual strong pain killers after a gallbladder flair, I had to go back into the ER because of similar problems. Then they put me on miralax. Let me tell you those few days were hit and miss. Almost literally lol

They kept giving him more and more stuff but in the end he had to have an enema. I'll remember miralax for when he comes home.

I think the food items used in roughage can help in vowels

That's true. He needs plenty of roughage in his diet.

I have IBS-C so I can certainly sympathize. That's a big problem. I hope it has resolved itself. I hope he comes home soon. Sending prayers and healing thoughts. Love the picture.

It will be tomorrow now. While it's a bit of a pity, I don't want him home before he's well.
